Cathedrals in the UK have appointed Constables and Officers within their churches and estates since the 12th Century, and at Canterbury Cathedral the Constables have worked from their Lodge since 1660AD.

A rare opportunity has arisen for the appointment of the Head Constable.

The Head Constable is responsible for Security; an integral part of our Ministry of Welcome across the Cathedral and Precincts, and the daily management and administration of the Cathedral Constables who work in small teams providing both policing and security for the Cathedral, its staff and visitors 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

As Head Constable you will:

- maintain good order and provide protection to all residents, staff and visitors to the Cathedral and its Precincts;
- manage emergency incidents within the Cathedral and its Precincts;
- provide strategic direction over the processes of monitoring vehicle and personnel entry to the Cathedral Precincts;
- ensure a high profile security presence by the carrying out of regular patrols;
- deal with staffing requirements by producing rotas and covering sickness and annual leave and onboarding new Constables;
- maintain and develop strong links to Kent Police and other security services.
