**Job summary**:
These roles are based in the Funding Policy Design Division, that sits within the Levelling Up Group. Our division is responsible for the delivery of an ambitious Levelling Up White Paper commitment to develop a plan for simplifying the local funding landscape.
Investing in local places and economies is a central pillar of the government’s Levelling Up mission. High value and targeted funding can unlock the potential of local economies, lead to visible improvements in places where people live and work, and support communities to grow and thrive.
Over time the current funding landscape for local authorities has become complex and fragmented, with multiple overlapping funding programmes and reporting requirements. Simplifying the system will empower local authorities to deliver outcomes that meet the diverse needs of their residents and communities. These roles will directly contribute to this ambition, playing a key role in enabling places to level up.

Simplifying local growth funding will reduce the inefficiencies and burdens of the current system and will enable places to deliver better local programmes and projects.
Our work will be felt in communities across the UK, helping to empower local leaders and enabling Government to target funding where it is most needed.

**Job description**:
The post holder will lead work on designing and delivering a simplified local funding landscape, with a focus on simplifying the delivery of existing local growth funds, designing future funding models to be implemented at the next SR and leading policy thinking on funding allocation methodologies.

These are challenging and rewarding posts that will require the successful applicant to work across DLUHC and the UK Government to deliver innovative policy solutions that can be implemented on the ground. You will play a major part in our preparation for future Spending Reviewss and other fiscal events. You will have the chance to work directly with places up and down the country, engaging with senior leaders in the process.

You will work in a welcoming and supportive team that is spread across England. These roles will provide excellent development opportunities in the areas of economic growth, levelling up, and place-based policy making.
- Key responsibilities will include:
- Leading policy thinking and design, developing written research, analysis, and strategic advice to Ministers on the future local growth funding landscape.
- Developing and maintaining positive working relationships with officials across DLUHC and wider Government, to deliver outcomes and shared objectives.
- Leading external engagement activity, identifying trends and future work.
- Building a data and evidence base to inform policy thinking and proposals that address funding design challenges.
- Supporting team members to manage programme governance, parliamentary activity, reporting and project management functions (where relevant).

**Person specification**:
You will be able to deliver timely and quality results, engage confidently with stakeholders and colleagues at different levels.

You will be flexible, resilient and able to keep an eye on how your work fits into the wider priorities of the directorate.
- We are looking for the following essential criteria:
- Strong leadership skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication
