**Job description**:

- We are recruiting for a Future of the Gas System Senior Policy Adviser in the Gas Systems, Networks and Markets (GSNM) team. Our area of focus, natural gas, is headline news following the recent global hike in gas prices and changing supply and demand patterns across the globe.
- The GSNM team is responsible for ensuring that the future gas system works for consumers, and for helping make the UK’s Net Zero target a reality. To that end, we are examining long-term models and frameworks to ensure the appropriate conditions are in place for the gas system to effectively support the transition to Net Zero.**Person specification**:
There are a range of exciting new projects underway within GSNM driving forward gas policy development and delivery. The Future of the Gas System branch of GSNM, in which this role sits, is undertaking a comprehensive programme of work which will allow Government to pursue the least-cost pathway to an effective gas system in a net zero world.

This includes gathering evidence on long-term gas supply and demand trajectories, examining the EU's proposals and developing appropriate advice to Government, and convening colleagues and experts working on hydrogen, carbon capture, utilisation and storage, electrification, and bioenergy to ensure policy decisions are taken with a system-wide approach.

Responsibilities include:

- Developing and maintaining internal relationships with teams whose work impacts the gas system.
- Furthering the team's understanding of potential conflicts and complements of competing policy proposals for decarbonisation.
- Working across internal and external stakeholders to develop the evidence base for the impact of decarbonisation pathways on the gas system.
- Conducting and contributing to parliamentary affairs on topics affecting gas policy.

**Skills and Experience**

Prior knowledge of energy policy is not essential but would be beneficial - we will quickly upskill you in the areas where you have less experience.
- Have strong problem-solving skills and the ability to grapple with complex information and issues.
- Have an eye for detail and be able to work both collaboratively and autonomously to ensure effective delivery.
- Have excellent interpersonal and people management skills, and excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Be proactive and have a real passion for their job, and be inspired by the work they do and the impact it has.
