The International Directorate seeks to:

- Analyse developments in, and risks to the United Kingdom from, the global economy and financial system;
- Devise, together with other directorates, appropriate responses to them in support of all the Bank's policy objectives; and
- Ensure that the Bank's engagement in international forums advances the Bank's international strategy for achieving these policy objectives.

**Department Overview**

International Directorate’s Policy and Strategy Division (PSD) is responsible for ensuring that the Bank takes a strategic and effective approach to progressing economic, financial regulatory and trade policy issues internationally, working with colleagues across the Bank, the UK authorities as well as with counterparts bilaterally and multilaterally.

More specifically PSD is made up of three teams which are:
(ii) An EU Strategy & Engagement Team which coordinates Bankwide engagement with EU counterparts on shared policy priorities and supports Bank colleagues with associated financial services analysis, maintaining expertise in EU institutions and policy and supporting effective engagement with counterparts in the EU. The team also focuses on assessing and addressing any risks to the Bank’s objectives associated with changes to, and restructuring of, the UK financial services sector through time.

(i) A Global Engagement Team which supports effective engagement with bilateral counterparts globally and in the key international bodies of G7 and G20, the Financial Stability Board (FSB) and Bank for International Settlements (BIS). This includes finding ways to progress the Bank’s international policy priorities through these bodies, and briefing and supporting governors and other senior colleagues. In some cases the Bank has a direct leadership role in these bodies - for example - Andrew Bailey in his role as Chair of the FSB’s Supervisory and Regulatory Committee (SRC).

(iv) A Bank-wide Trade Policy Hub which works to ensure that the financial services aspects of UK trade and market access agreements are as consistent with the Bank’s objectives as possible. The team maintains expertise in trade policy, and in particular how it impacts financial services and works alongside HM Treasury and FCA colleagues where such agreements are being pursued bilaterally or multilaterally.

Taken together, the Division’s activities are mutually reinforcing as supporting the development of common international policies and standards, implemented domestically and internationally, provides a firm foundation for safe openness in financial services activity. PSD works closely with the other Divisions in ID to pursue an international policy agenda, which strengthens the international monetary, financial and regulatory system in order to deliver UK monetary and financial stability.

**Job description**

**_ We are recruiting for two Policy Advisors for the EU Strategy and Engagement team - one permanent position and one 6-to-9 month fixed term contract_**_._

The team is also responsible for identifying, analysing and tracking risks to the Bank’s objectives that could arise as a result of financial sector developments, including in the EU, and considering policy approaches.

To make progress on these issues the team needs to have effective working relationships with its key counterparts globally, and particularly with EU counterparts and bodies. The team works collaboratively with experts across the Bank, with counterparts in the FCA and HMT, and engages with industry bodies. The team regularly engage with Governors and the senior leadership team.

**Role Requirements**

**Minimum (essential) criteria**
- Excellent stakeholder management skills and the ability to work collaboratively to build a strong network of stakeholders across the Bank and externally.
- Sound judgment and analytical skills. Ability to track developments across multiple sectors, drawing together a large amount of information to identify the key points and form a coherent narrative.
- Ability to independently lead work and deliver through other members of the team and across teams. The roles will require leading important policy work. And depending on the interest and skills of the successful applicant, the role could be shaped to include line management responsibilities.
