The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) priorities include improving public safety and reducing reoffending by reforming prisons, probation and youth justice, and building a justice system which makes access to justice swifter and more certain for all citizens whatever their background. Project professionals in the MoJ help to improve the government’s ability to protect the public and reduce reoffending, and to provide a more effective, transparent and responsive criminal justice system for victims and the public.

**Description**

As a Systems Administrator in the Digital Technology Services (DTS) Tooling Team, you will support, manage, and maintain several tools including ServiceNow, JIRA, Confluence, Dynatrace and potentially others as the portfolio of the team grows. As new technology enables more efficient ways of working the role should support any ways in which tooling can help HMCTS orchestrate and automate their business processes. You will report to the Delivery Manager.

Exercising discretion is a key characteristic of this role where you can take decisions independently without reference to managers and with a view to the wider business context.??

**Key Accountability**
- Understand the wider picture of how Tooling should be deployed within a variety of environments to deliver a high-quality user experience. Use technical knowledge to translate customer needs into clearly defined requirements.
- Deliver current operating procedures and processes for reporting and associated delivery of services and develop and execute improvements and efficiencies. Be able to recognise internal operating procedures and where changes can be delivered at pace with wider impacting procedures which require excellent stakeholder engagement, integrity, effective decision making and setting priorities.
- Assess and respond to queries and issues as they arise providing further analysis as required or escalating more complex and difficult issues upwards to relevant members of the team. Maintain accountability and responsibility and help drive issues forward.
- Participate in business process improvement workshops with users looking to improve their processes using supported tools.

Participate in testing activities during regular releases and upgrades.

**Knowledge Skills & Experience**
- Ability to maintain secure configuration and obtain accurate information, controlling IT assets in one or more significant areas. You can verify the location and state of assets.
- Management skills and experience of working across different areas as you will be required to support various tooling products.
- Understanding of End User processes and engagement with users to gather user-based enhancements and needs. Competence to research user requirements supported by quantitative and qualitative data to enable accurate user-centric enhancements.
- Ownership of issues until the relevant owner has been found or the issue has been mitigated or resolved.
- Participate in technical support activities and carry out agreed or routine maintenance and administration tasks.
- Ability to execute test scripts under supervision. Demonstrate an understanding of the role of testing and how it works.
- Subject Matter Expert with regards to tooling products with a high degree of understanding of what each tool encompasses.
- Awareness of how to support the implementation of efficient process improvements and the experience to highlight any shortfalls in process.
- Willingness to learn new technical skills. You may be required to attain specific or professional certifications on tooling products.
- Awareness of project management techniques and other software development methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, DevOps etc).
- Ability to identify and raise incidents, gathering relevant evidence and assigning the incident to the appropriate owner.
- Understanding of the Change process and ability to raise a Change based on user requirements/requests.
- Investigate problems in systems, processes, and services, with an understanding of the level of a problem (for example, strategic, tactical, or operational). Ability to contribute to the implementation of remedies and preventative measures.
- A good understanding of IT Service Management (ITSM) and related IT technologies.
