Portfolio Manager

 

Maven Capital Partners is looking for a Portfolio Manager to join our Edinburgh team. The need for additional resource follows the launch of the Investment Fund for Scotland (IFS) late in 2024, with Maven having been awarded the mandate to provide equity funding of up to £5 million to high growth businesses across Scotland. The successful candidate will have a rare opportunity to join an experienced investment house early in the deployment of this exciting and important new Fund.

You will provide assistance and guidance to investee company management teams, challenge strategy, support the delivery of value creation plans, utilising professional network contacts where appropriate, with the overall aim of increasing shareholder value.

The ideal candidate:

  •   Demonstrable track record of working as a business partner within a high growth entrepreneurial environment focused on the creation of shareholder value.
  • Will be highly numerate and literate, ideally with a CCAB qualification.
  • Assertive with good communication and persuasion skills and experience of managing multiple stakeholders.
  • Resilient and resourceful self-starter with proactive approach and ability to work to deadlines with limited supervision.
  • Exhibits the ability to solve problems using sound commercial acumen and a network of professional contacts.

 

The role involves:

  • Working proactively with portfolio companies, ranging from high potential growth businesses in the scale up phase, through to more established SME's requiring a more strategic overview approach, to increase shareholder value .
  • Attendance at investee company board meetings and the provision of strategic support and constructive challenge. Preparation of investment committee papers for follow-on funding or amendment to terms and clear and insightful update reports and reviews of investee company performance within the portfolio.
  • A focus on creation of value from the investment, and on occasions loss minimisation. You will prioritise hands-on support to Portfolio companies requiring direct input and guidance, and support may include re-structuring, M&A support, bolt-on acquisitions, new business initiatives through to supporting successful exit strategies.
