What will the interim Head of Human Resources do at Hillingdon?


Key Responsibilities:


Develop and implement HR strategies, policies, and programs that support the objectives, vision, and values of the organization.

The Head of Human Resources will be a part of the Local Authorities Corporate Management Team, reporting directly to the CEO.

Work with senior management to identify HR priorities and opportunities, and to develop and execute HR plans that support the organization's objectives.

Provide leadership and support to the HR team, and foster a culture of continuous learning, development, and improvement.

Positively Influencing Councillors and Senior Executives regarding HR strategy and HR Transformation.


Culture Transformation and Leadership:

Your primary responsibility is to lead the HR transformation and embedding of the council's culture.

You’ll need to take a lead role in strengthening the organizational culture, ensuring that the Council`s values and approach are displayed.


People Management and Wellbeing:

As the Head of HR, you’ll be responsible for the wellbeing of the workforce.


Adapting to Change:

HR functions have made substantial adjustments to strategies, including adapting systems and tools , managing priorities, budgets, headcount in a challenging environment.



About You:


Previous experience in a similar Local Authority environment is an essential requirement of the role, along with a proven track record of organisational design and re-structure. Experience of creating and implementing HR Strategies which drive business performance is also required, along with the ability to be a proactive member of the Corporate Management Team.


We are looking for a proactive individual with a strong work ethic determined to make a difference to the Council and Residents demonstrating strong attention to detail, a "can do" attitude and ability to communicate with both internal and external stakeholders. You’ will be a proven senior people professional, confident in advising and guiding senior leaders to create an enabling culture that supports delivery. You’ll have experience of working in a complex, ideally political environment, leading and supporting teams and knowing how to get the best out of people.


You will combine your strategic change management and leadership skills with an ability to see beyond the here and now, working across the Authority to plan our workforce of the future. You will ideally be a Chartered Member of the CIPD, with a focus on the continuous professional development of yourself and others, and your confidence in applying best employment practice will be key to your success.


This is a hybrid role, with three days based at our offices in Uxbridge.
