ADASS Engagement Officer

Do you want to help transform adult social care in England?

We are looking for a talented, energetic and well-organised individual who has a range of engagement skills to come and work in our small but mighty charity.

About us

ADASS (the Association of Directors or Adult Social Services) is a membership organisation for those working in adult social care. As a charity, we work with professionals, other organisations and people with lived experience to influence decision makers, policy and legislation – from the local to regional and national level.

We raise awareness of the benefits social care can bring to individuals and communities, and aim to ensure all of us who need care and support can live the lives we want regardless of age, ability and background.

About the role

We've published a Roadmap to change social care for good. But we need to work with our allies to build support and a wider movement to achieve that.

We are now looking for someone with a range of communications and engagement skills who can engage stakeholders, help train members in the shared narrative we need to use to win hearts and minds, and support members to identify and develop the human stories that show social care at its best.

This role offers a great opportunity to develop your career at a national level.

The postholder will:

Work with the Director of Comms and Public Affairs to engage allies in the movement to transform social care, including facilitating and attending movement meetings
Represent ADASS and promote the organisations priorities and campaigns in movement meetings and in coalitions
Lead the planning and implementation of a national communications training programme for our members (Directors, their Deputies, Principal Social Workers)
This looks like setting up and facilitating training sessions in councils across the country, so a strong sense of customer service and working with colleagues in councils is essential (and candidates should be prepared to travel regularly)
Support the Director to continually update and refresh a training programme on media skills, social care narrative, and identifying case studies
Manage a network of members who have completed training as an alumni network, to share media/comms/campaigning opportunities with them and support them as they put their training into practise
Work as part of the wider ADASS communications team and support the team as needed around media, public affairs, campaigns, digital comms and internal comms
Have a flexible approach to completing other tasks as needed by agreement with your line manager.

Key skills required:

Strong organisational skills and proactivity is essential Stakeholder engagement and building trust-based relationships with partner organisations is essential. Applicants should outline in their application how they are confident networkers Customer service experience and/or supporting membership organisations a plus Developing materials for training programmes and delivering training, even if only to small groups, is preferable Experience running logistics at events is also preferable Experience running large-scale meetings would be an advantage including facilitating webinars or online training/sessions/meetings Experience of keeping a group of people/alumni in touch, ensuring high morale and engagement even after an event has ended. Prior knowledge of adult social care, health or local government is not essential, but would be an advantage.

Job details

This role is a flexible and largely home-based role. Travel is required at least monthly, to attend our in-person monthly team meeting in London. However, team members work in a London office twice weekly and the candidate would be welcome to work in the office as much as they like. The nature of the role also means regular travel to deliver training at councils across England (costs for which will of course be covered).

We are family friendly, flexible and open to a number of different arrangements. This role is an 18-month appointment with the possibility of extension, as the project will run for three-years.

Salary

£41,925 per year.

Hours

We envisage this as a full-time role, 35 hours a week. Though we are open to a discussion about fewer hours and support flexible working, so we can discuss how the hours are worked with any successful candidate, subject to the needs of the business.

How to apply

Please send a copy of your CV and a supporting statement (no more than 2 sides of A4) outlining how you meet the person specification to by 11:59pm on Weds 14 August, 2024. Any applications received after this time will not be considered.

We anticipate online interviews for shortlisted candidates will take place on 22 & 23 August, 2024.
