Technician – Clinical Skills and Simulation Training Support

We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to join our friendly, fast paced and forward-thinking technician team within The School of Health Sciences.

The Edith Cavell Building is based on Norwich Research Park and contains 12 specialist simulation/clinical skills training rooms as well as a lecture theatre and "seminar style" debrief rooms. The simulation/skills rooms include a hospital ward, critical care area, birthing suite, and home environment as well as several general-purpose skills-training rooms. These all have SMOTS (Scotia Medical Observation and Teaching System) cameras to allow simulations to be broadcast to another room live or played back after the sessions to help provide feedback & debrief for students. The running of the building is managed by the Clinical Skills Technician team and the School Manager.

This role will assist with the day-to-day practical running of the centre and first-line IT support for the SMOTS camera system and other simulation technology, managed by the Facility Coordinator. This includes closely cooperating with the other technicians and Facility Coordinator and liaising with academic and administrative staff to ensure all tasks are completed on time and as required. The role holders will manage stocks of consumables, set up/clear away rooms and equipment, train/assist lecturers with equipment, and carry out general care, upkeep, and maintenance of the rooms and equipment.

Good practical skills and a positive attitude are essential for this role but no specialist knowledge of healthcare, clinical skills or simulation is required as support will be given to learn this.

This is a practical job and also requires a reasonable level of physical fitness e.g., moving equipment and furniture around the building etc (reasonable adjustments will be considered in line with the Equality Act You will need to be available to work on-site (Colney Lane, Norwich, NR4 7UL hours per week, Monday to Friday. The standard working pattern for this post is 10am to 6pm, with the candidate being available to work between 8am and 6pm, as flexibility is desired, especially covering annual leave and particularly busy periods. However, there is some flexibility over hours when the work allows and this can be arranged among the team.

There are two full-time posts available on an indefinite basis.
