The role: We are currently looking for a Systems Engineering Team Lead to join our rapidly growing team based in Portchester. We would like to hear from experienced Systems Engineers looking to step into a leadership role where we can offer support and training OR from experienced Systems Team Leaders who can help shape the future of the department.

The successful person will manage and coordinate the team, being responsible for coaching and mentoring them in their development as well as resource management and mapping people to project demands.

Beyond the line management aspects of this role, you will act as a senior Systems Engineer directly on key projects across both defence and commercial applications, working within cross-functional project teams to deliver complex systems incorporating software, mechanical and electrical systems.

Role responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Performing technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems.
  • Performing analysis at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal.
  • Ensuring the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule and cost constraints.
  • Performing functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.
  • Leading, directing, and reviewing the work of professionals or lower-level supervisors.
  • Communicating within and outside own function to explain and gain cooperation on policies and practices.
  • Making moderate to substantial improvements to processes, systems, and solutions.
  • Planning and establishing goals and objectives for a team with direct impact on the short-term operational results for the department.
  • Deploying a practical knowledge in leading/managing projects, processes, and employees with strong knowledge within professional discipline.

Essential Skills / Qualifications / Experience:

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Engineering.
  • Relevant experience in a Systems Engineering role.
  • Planning and carrying out integration, verification, validation and qualification activities.
  • Working within cross-functional teams and carrying out technical analysis.
  • Working within a formal engineering project lifecycle.
  • Leadership.
  • Adaptability.
  • Problem Solving.
  • Interpersonal Skills and Emotional Intelligence.

Desirable Skills / Qualifications / Experience:

  • Line management of small to medium sized technical teams.
  • Working on defence projects.
  • Experience with Atlassian's Jira and Confluence.
  • Professional or personal experience of the maritime environment.
