You will receive regular clinical and professional supervision.The post holder will attend relevant training required to work in the Havens and will have access to a wide variety of CPD opportunities. You will contribute to teaching, training, audit, research and service development.

Main duties of the job

The Referral and Intake Co-ordinator role requires both clinical and organisational skills.

The post holder will assist with co-ordinating and ensuring the successful day to day management of all referrals to the Havens Therapies service (adults, children and young people), including processing referrals and adding them to the relevant waiting lists and managing the initial assessment and treatment waiting lists.

The post holder will be responsible for identifying referrals that require further discussion by the therapies team and preparing them for discussion at the weekly referrals meeting.

They will support clinicians to step clients up and out of the service and will liaise, on behalf of clinicians, if necessary, with GPs, referrers, other statutory and non-statutory services to ensure clients are signposted to the best service.

The post holder will also screen clients over the telephone when the referral information is unclear or lacking in detail. They will manage referrals quickly and smoothly, ensuring all risks are assessed and clients receive treatment from the appropriate team within the appropriate time frame.

Part of the role will also involve supporting crisis workers/nurses with clients calling in relation to psychological support.

There may be an opportunity to undertake some limited clinical work with appropriate qualifications and experience.

About us

The Havens is the London's Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) and we are a longstanding partnership initiative between the Mayors' Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) and NHS England to improve the care offered to victims of sexual assault and rape. The service is provided by King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The Havens provide comprehensive forensic, medical, advocacy and psychological therapy aftercare services to complainants of serious sexual assault.

Job responsibilities

CLINICAL

To screen and manage all referrals to the Havens therapies service

To screen patients on the telephone or online when the referral information is unclear or lacking detail and to convey often complex and sensitive information in a clear, reassuring and containing manner.

To ensure the referrals are allocated to the right service pathway in liaison with the appropriate clinician within the service.

To manage referrals quickly and smoothly, ensuring all risks are assessed and clients receive treatment from the appropriate team within the appropriate time frame.

To be responsible for continuing monitoring, evaluation and management of risk and safeguarding issues for Havens clients in close consultation with their supervisor, senior clinicians and the Social Worker Liaison Officer.

To attend service Safeguarding meetings.

To work closely with partners in Secondary Care and other independent sector providers to ensure smooth pathways.

To work closely with the therapies team and the Havens multi-disciplinary team.

To support clinicians to step clients up and out of the service as and when required.

To liaise, on behalf of clinicians and, if necessary, with GPs, referrers, other statutory and non-statutory services in the Trust to ensure clients are signposted to the most appropriate service

To participate in multidisciplinary meetings concerned with the delivery and development of clinical services.

To receive regular clinical and service-related supervision.

To provide support for colleagues in team meetings and in difficult emergency situations.
ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES
To ensure the highest standards of clinical record keeping, report writing and the responsible exercise of professional self-governance in accordance with professional codes of practice of the relevant professional body and Trust policies and procedures.

To provide and maintain adequate statistics and monitoring records as required by the Trust and commissioners.

To maintain knowledge and awareness of the local resources available in the area to provide clients with a comprehensive signposting service.

To contribute to updates of a list of resources of relevant voluntary and statutory agencies working within the specialist field of rape and sexual assault in the locality.

To be involved in the production, maintenance and distribution of client information leaflets, particularly pertaining to sexual assault and the work of the Havens. To ensure that education materials, relevant leaflets, and posters are up to date.

The post holder must ensure that personal information for clients, members of staff and all other individuals is accurate,up-to-date,kept secure and confidential at all times in compliance with the Data Protection Act,the Caldecott principles and the common law duty of confidentiality, GDPR, Code of Confidentiality or Personal Health Data, the professional body Code of Conduct and other relevant Trust policy.

RESEARCH, AUDIT AND SERVICE DEVELOPMENT

To monitor compliance with service waiting times.
  • To report on capacity issues and to flag difficulties to senior members of the therapies team (e.g. assessment or therapy waiting times exceeding service targets).
  • To work in collaboration with the therapies team to develop clinical and psychoeducational waiting list initiatives.
  • To contribute to providing information to support audit and evaluation of services.
  • To utilise theory, evidence-based literature and research in the field of trauma to support trauma informed practice in the client work and in the work with other team members.
  • To contribute to the implementation of service development projects and audits, as agreed with clinical/professional lead, to propose changes to service delivery
  • To contribute to policy discussions on wider organisational level.
  • To assist the Havens therapies team in carrying out research (e.g. introduce research studies to clients and seek informed consent).

ORGANISATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • To collaborate on the development and review of appropriate policy and clinical pathways within the Havens.
  • To contribute to the systematic governance of the therapies service practice within the service, including clinical record keeping standards, records of professional meetings, and collection of activity data and outcome measures.
  • To continue professional development by attending and using clinical supervision as well as by undertaking courses or participating in relevant conferences, seminars or workshops.

To establish good working relationships with the Havens multidisciplinary team, as well as professionals from other departments.
