London, Greater London, United Kingdom Bertelsmann SE & Co. KGaA Full time

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a talented and highly creative Designer to join the Puffin 6+ team at Penguin Random House Children's, working on the design of book covers and interiors. Joining a team of 12 and reporting to the Design Manager you will work across a wide range of titles from beginner readers through to YA and in both fiction and non-fiction.

About Puffin

Puffin is home to so many imaginative and best-selling authors and illustrators. Our designers work on a huge range of different books but what they all have in common is clever creativity and outstanding design. Our brilliant designers look after some of the very best-established authors, illustrators and brands in children's publishing alongside finding and nurturing new talent.

What you'll bring

We're looking for a designer with exceptional typographic and layout skills, an amazing design eye and creative flair plus the ability to turn their concepts into innovative and commercial packages.

We're looking for someone who:

Is a clear communicator with experience of collaborating with illustrators. Is able to build and sustain positive and productive relationships with other colleagues within the editorial, sales, production and rights teams. Is confident developing concepts for book covers and interiors and has experience doing so. Has a demonstrable interest in, and understanding of, the children's book market and can speak to current trends, brands, illustrators and authors.

On the technical side, you'll:

Be a fluent user of InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator. Have a working knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Teams. Have exceptional organisation skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects, all with different lead times. Ensure that all work is delivered to the highest standard and on schedule – and that all administration and file management is up-to-date and accurate.

This is a great opportunity to take the next step in your career as a children's book designer.

Please apply with a CV and a pdf of three or four examples that showcase the range of your design work by midnight on Wednesday 3rd July . Please upload your PDF of recent work in place of a cover letter.
