About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Editorial Director to join our team at Penguin Random House. As a key member of our children's book publishing department, you will be responsible for acquiring and editing picture books, novelty series, and non-fiction titles for children aged 0-7 years old.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work closely with the Publisher to grow the children's book list, seeking out and acquiring new talent to create best-selling picture books, novelty series, and non-fiction titles.
  • Create and build new novelty series and help grow our non-fiction publishing.
  • Manage one or two members of the editorial team and work closely with our Art Director and designers on new acquisitions and book creation.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with authors, writers, and agents, as well as internal colleagues in editorial, design, production, sales, rights, and marketing.
Requirements
  • Proven track record of creating best-selling children's books, with a strong understanding of the UK and international children's book markets.
  • Excellent knowledge of the children's book industry, including trends, genres, and formats.
  • Strong negotiation skills and ability to build and maintain relationships with authors, agents, and other industry professionals.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a high level of organization and attention to detail.
  • Previous line management experience is beneficial.
