Oxford, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom Oxford University Press Full time
Education changes lives forever. It broadens horizons, breaks down barriers, and fires imaginations. Like the University of Oxford of which we are a part, we are committed to uncompromising standards, freedom of expression, and the enrichment of lives through education. This is our motivation, our purpose, and our mission. It is why 100% of the money we make is reinvested into education and research. It is why we all care deeply about reaching more people, in more places, with world-class learning and research materials and services.

About the Role

In this role you will lead the editorial and product delivery function of about forty people for the UK education team to deliver high-impact, quality digital and print content on time and on budget. You will develop and maintain relationships with suppliers and help transform the way we develop our content to enable us to meet our strategic goals and priorities.

You will lead a passionate, best-in-industry editorial and programme management team, maintaining and building excellent editorial skills, market knowledge and application of the Oxford University Press learning design principles, and create an energetic culture that embraces content transformation initiative.

Other responsibilities will include:
  • Continually identify and develop more effective ways of working, and establish excellent relationships with Product, Design, and Digital functions by fostering a 'one team' mentality
  • Drive down costs of content creation through working with central procurement teams to develop a supplier strategy
  • Implement AI tools and systems and other technologies to improve efficiency
  • Ensure product data is entered onto internal systems in an accurate and timely way
We operate a hybrid working policy that requires a minimum of 2 days per week in the Oxford office.

About You

You will have the ability to connect, communicate & inspire, be action and delivery oriented and committed with a calm and positive 'can do'/'problem-solving' attitude. We are looking for an innovator with an openness and adaptability to change, who is a highly organised multi-tasker and an innovative and creative thinker.

You will bring to the role:
  • A demonstrable track record of managing and delivering large and complex projects and programmes.
  • Extensive editorial and project management experience gained in educational publishing and across print and digital.
  • Proven team leadership, line management, negotiating, and influencing skills, with strong financial management skills.
  • Detailed knowledge of UK Schools Publishing and formal project management training is desirable.
Benefits

We care about work/life balance here at OUP. With this in mind we offer 25 days' holiday that rises with service, plus bank holidays and Christmas closure (3-days) and a 35-hour working week. We are open to discussing flexibility in respect to working patterns, dependent on role. We also have a great variety of active employee networks and societies.

We help make your money go further by contributing to your pension up to 12%, offering loans and savings schemes through our partnership with Salary Finance, in addition to travel to work schemes and access to a wide range of local discounts.

This role comes with the added benefit of private medical insurance and a discretionary annual management bonus.
