About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Production Editorial Manager to join our team at Oxford University Press. As a key member of our Content Delivery management team, you will be responsible for managing a team of Senior Production Editors and Production Editors, ensuring that editorial quality standards are met, and planning resources and allocating workload.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Manage a team of Senior Production Editors and Production Editors.
  • Ensure editorial quality standards are met by the team and our suppliers.
  • Plan resources and allocate workload.
  • Monitor work in progress on all projects managed by the team.
  • Work with our Outsourced Services team to manage suppliers and create budgets.
  • Implement processes and workflows effectively.
  • Support the team and our suppliers by enabling knowledge sharing through training and documented guidelines.

About You

Essential:

  • Significant experience of managing production editorial work for educational publishing, including copyediting, proofreading, and other related tasks.
  • Significant experience of managing freelancers and suppliers delivering production editorial work for both print and digital products.
  • Experience of reviewing, improving, and implementing processes.
  • Demonstrated potential to line manage via coaching, mentoring, or leading others (line management experience preferred).
  • Excellent technical knowledge of editorial tools used, including complex MS Word style sheets, PDF mark-up, and authoring tools for interactive content.

Desirable:

  • Line management experience.
  • Understanding of content structures and XML standards.
  • Knowledge and experience of the ELT market.
  • Working knowledge of Spanish, Italian, Polish, or another foreign language relevant to the ELT market.
  • Experience of working in publishing or a similar industry in a relevant role.
  • Experience of working in a matrix organisation.
