Editorial Assistant for Music Publications

About the Role
We are looking for an Assistant Editor to become a vital part of our dynamic and supportive music editorial team within the Academic division. This role involves preparing, overseeing, and assisting in the publication of both print and digital sheet music titles, aligning with business priorities and adhering to established editorial standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare sheet music for publication, including copyediting and managing the production process from manuscript to final product, ensuring timely and budget-compliant releases.
- Coordinate with freelance contributors to guarantee the timely delivery of outsourced content that meets quality and budget requirements.
- Provide essential administrative support and assets for print and digital titles, which includes briefing cover designs, writing promotional blurbs, and maintaining accurate scheduling and specification data.
- Assist the Publishing team with project support, utilizing music engraving software to prepare performance materials and aiding in proof stages and composer communications.
- Oversee detailed corrections for reprints, as confirmed by the job-holder or other Publishing team members.
- Manage the preparation of audio content for publication or promotional purposes.
About You
To excel in this position, you should ideally possess:
Essential:
- A high level of practical musicianship, including proficiency in keyboard skills and aural abilities.
- An understanding of music notation, choral practices, and the techniques of various orchestral instruments.
- An exceptional eye for detail.
- Advanced digital literacy and familiarity with music engraving software.
- Strong command of the English language and excellent writing capabilities.
- Good organizational skills.
- The ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
- A proactive and open-minded approach to learning new skills.
- Adaptability and the capacity to work efficiently under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Experience in-house with a music publisher, including copy-editing and proofreading music and text.
- Familiarity with typographical design.
- Knowledge of the global sheet music market.
