Position Overview

We are looking for an Assistant Editor to become a vital part of our dynamic and supportive music editorial team within the Academic division. This role involves preparing, overseeing, and assisting in the publication of both print and digital sheet music titles, aligning with business priorities and adhering to established editorial standards and best practices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare sheet music for publication, including copyediting and managing the production workflow from manuscript to final printed copy, ensuring timely publication within budget.
  • Coordinate with freelance contributors to guarantee the prompt delivery of outsourced content that meets quality and budget requirements.
  • Provide administrative support and assets for both print and digital titles, including briefing cover designs, writing promotional blurbs, and maintaining accurate scheduling and specification data.
  • Assist the Publishing team with project support, utilizing music engraving software to prepare performance materials and aiding in proofing stages and composer communications.
  • Oversee detailed corrections for reprints, as identified and confirmed by the job-holder or other Publishing team members.
  • Manage the preparation of audio content for publication or promotional purposes.

Candidate Profile

To excel in this position, you should ideally possess:

Essential Skills:
  • A high level of practical musicianship, including proficiency in keyboard skills and aural abilities.
  • A solid understanding of music notation, choral practices, and the techniques of various orchestral instruments.
  • An exceptional eye for detail.
  • Strong digital literacy and familiarity with music engraving software.
  • Excellent command of English and outstanding writing skills.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • The ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • A proactive and open-minded approach to learning new skills.
  • The capability to adapt and work efficiently under pressure to meet deadlines.
Desirable Skills:
  • Experience in-house with a music publisher, including copy-editing and proofing music and text.
  • Knowledge of typographical design.
  • Familiarity with the global sheet music market.
