The Neurology Department is a very busy and fast paced department providing patient care across Lancashire & South Cumbria, East Lancashire, Blackpool & Fylde and surrounding areas.

We are looking for enthusiastic, hardworking and adaptable individuals who have an interest in improving patient experience.


Your work will cover a wide range of duties including dealing with patient queries, post, filing, downloading and typing of clinic & results letters, retrieving information, using electronic patient record system and you must therefore be able to demonstrate a flexible approach to all working relationships.

Your customer service and communication skills and experience will come in great use, as will your organisational skills with attention to detail.


Knowledge and experience of office procedures are of course essential - we don't want to just throw you in at the deep end so we do want people who know what it's like to work in an office team environment.

However, as all offices and systems are different, you will receive full training when you start so there will be plenty of opportunity to grow and develop new skills as well as show us what you can do with yours.

The ability to use your initiative and work as a member of a busy team is essential.

Undertake transcription of Nurse admin correspondence and any other correspondence ensuring all is prepared for signature promptly and to a high standard.


Respond to external and internal telephone enquiries from staff, patients and others in an efficient, tactful and diplomatic manner and ensure that any messages/information is passed to the appropriate person quickly.


Communicate with a wide range of staff, patients and visitors to the Trust / Department utilising a variety of communication methods including verbal, electronic and passing information in a format that is appropriate to the individual request.


Co-ordinate and maintain accurate diary and work schedule for the care nurses to ensure follow through on actions required e.g.

Communication of patient messages, clinic cancellations/ reductions to relevant departments.

Co-ordinate meetings, appointments and lectures as requested including arranging venue and refreshments on and off-site when required.

Use databases and computer packages where appropriate to initiate and maintain records and generate statistics for analytical purposes.

Interrogating patient records and data to ensure accuracy and updating Trust systems to reflect any updated information.

Ensure accurate filing of patient investigations and correspondence.

Collect and sort incoming mail to be actioned by Medical Secretary / Consultant or other healthcare professionals.

Provide administrative support when other members of the team are absent.
