Required to fill this replacement post within the Paediatric Haematology Department at the Leeds General Infirmary.

The Leeds paediatric haematology department has approximately 250 patients under the care of the paediatric specialist hemoglobinopathy treatment centre, with either sickle cell disease or thalassemia. There is currently one consultant overseeing the care of these patients and the appointee would join him to support the haemoglobinopathy team and develop the service in line with the National Service Specification. The overall aim of the service is to reduce levels of morbidity and mortality and improve the experience of all haemoglobinopathy patients by reducing inequities and improving timely access to high quality expert care.

In addition, we are looking for a colleague who may wish to lead the haemophilia service in the future to work alongside the existing haematologist and to participate in the joint adult and paediatric telephone advice on call service for the Leeds Children's Hospitals Inherited Bleeding Disorder Service which supports approximately 250 patients.

The appointee will also participate in the clinic providing care to children and young people with bone marrow failure disorders.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant should possess MB BS (or equivalent) FRCPath or equivalent qualification and MRCP or MRCPCH or equivalent and should be included on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview, if currently within a training programme within the UK. In accordance with the consultant appointment regulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the Specialist Register.

Applicants should have established skills in Paediatric Non-Malignant Haematology and its related specialties including haemostasis and thrombosis, Leukaemia and Stem Cell Transplantation. A strong commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and a research interest is desirable.

Consideration will be given to applicants who wish to work full or part time and those wishing to job share.

How I would integrate new therapies into the management of children with haemoglobinopathies and haemophilia.

In relation to this post, we are looking for an enthusiastic paediatric haematologist to join the current lead consultant in non-malignant haematology to serve an increasing population of children with haematological disorders including thalassaemia and haemoglobinopathies, disorders of thrombosis and haemostasis and bone marrow failure.

Experience
Essential

Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in Paediatric Haematology and Haemato Oncology. Specifically, must demonstrate higher training in Paediatric Non-Malignant Haematology including haemostasis and thrombosis, Leukaemia and Stem Cell Transplantation. Evidence of continuous career progression consistent with personal circumstances.

Training, Research, Teaching & Audit
Essential

Should have completed a recognised training programme in Paediatric Haematology. Evidence of the ability to carry out medical research. Experience in training undergraduate medical students and postgraduate doctors. Experience of participation in regular clinical audit.

Desirable

Previous experience of supervising research by junior staff. Previous attendance on Appraisal Techniques and Small Group Teaching Workshops.

*Hold full GMC Registration with a license to practice. *Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via: -CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview) CESR (or) international applicants should comply with the GMC specialty registration process
