Job summary

Required to fill this full time, replacementpost. The Leeds Paediatric Renal service providesregional specialist kidney care for children across East Yorkshire, WestYorkshire, North Yorkshire, and the Humber. This service is one of 13designated services for paediatric nephrology in the UK and one of 10 providinga fully comprehensive service including transplantation.

There is an established regionalnetwork that includes educational activities including the annual regionalnetwork study day to provide educational updates and training educational studyday and provision of regional guidelines alongside a network of outreachclinics at 11 other hospitals across the region. Thus, providing shared carefor patients and in-line with the principle of providing equity of access toquality care as close to home as possible for a population of children withcomplex and/or chronic disease (NHS Kidney Care-supported Improving thestandard of care of children with kidney disease through paediatric nephrologynetworks, RCPCH 2011).

Main duties of the job

The services at Leeds Childrens Hospital are based in the renal unit, inpatient bed base on L50 and adjacent haemodialysis is a shared ward with paediatric hepatology and includes a shared 13 bed base including 8 cubicles (2 with the capacity for haemodialysis). Patients are also routinely care of cared for on the High Dependency unit and in Paediatric intensive care post renal transplant. Children will need to come to Leeds for specialised treatments or procedures which include renal transplantation, acute kidney injury requiring dialysis, insertion of long-term dialysis access and problems relating to long-term dialysis, renal biopsy, specialist imaging, renovascular angiography and treatment and children with complex nephro-urological is in addition to the large cohort of children with chronic kidney disease require the input of a large multi-disciplinary team.

The successful applicant should possessCCT (or equivalent) in Paediatric Nephrology and or within 6 months of CCT atthe time of interview, if currently within a training programme within the UK. Inaccordance with the consultant appointment regulations, all other categories ofdoctors must be on the Specialist Register.

Applicants shouldhave established skills in PaediatricNephrology and its related specialties. A strong commitment to undergraduateand postgraduate teaching and a research interest is desirable.

2. OBJECTIVESOF THE POST

Tomaintain a high-quality regional tertiary paediatric nephrology service toLeeds and North, West and East Yorkshire.

Toparticipate in the acute 1 in 6 on call rota for Paediatric Nephrology,Dialysis and Transplantation.

Toparticipate in the weekly joint multidisciplinary meetings (and teachingprogramme) with consultant colleagues.

Toparticipate in audit, quality improvement and regional service development

Tocontribute to research, teaching and new developments within the service. Thepost holder will be encouraged to facilitate and contribute to the currentclinical research programs on going in the department.

Medically fit to fulfil ALL aspects of the post, and to be able to respond quickly to emergencies, as necessary. Meets professional health requirements (in line with GMC standards/Good Medical Practice). *Hold full GMC Registration with a license to practice. *Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via: -CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview) CESR (or) international applicants should comply with the GMC specialty registration process

Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience in paediatric nephrology Has completed training in paediatric nephrology as specified by RCPCH Nephrology CSAC, or training assessed to be equivalent by the GMC Comprehensive clinical experience in paediatric nephrology including managing peri-operative transplant patients, managing children and young people with acute kidney injury & end stage kidney disease and managing children and young people requiring acute and chronic dialysis (both peritoneal dialysis and haemodialysis).

Qualifications

Membership examination of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH) or equivalent qualification. Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment and hold a current licence to practice. YOU MUST STATE YOUR GMC NUMBER ON YOUR APPLICATION FORM TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THE POST. The candidate needs to be eligible for specialist registration in paediatric Nephrology and should be on the specialist register or be within 6 months of obtaining CCT or equivalent at interview. Eligibility to work in the UK. Is up to date and fit to practise safely.
