Interviews 20thAug

This is an exciting time to join one of the largest Pathology departments in the country, and in advance of moving to our new £30m Pathology building (on the St. Jamess University Hospital site) and new Acute Hospital Laboratory (on the Leeds General Infirmary site) early 2025. The Department of Blood Sciences is seeking to recruit experienced and innovative Biomedical Scientist in Haematology to help shape, deliver and improve the service we deliver to our patients.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will work within a large hub laboratory, serving both Leeds Teaching Hospitals and the wider community. This includes the regional Oncology centre and the Leeds Children's Hospital, which is a unique opportunity for the successful candidate to gain experience in paediatric haematology. In early 2025, the successful candidate will be involved in the exciting transition to our new, purpose-built hub laboratory at St. Jamess University Hospital.

To be considered for this Biomedical Scientist position in Haematology, you must be registered with the HCPC and have demonstrable laboratory experience, along with a keen interest in the scientific field of Haematology. Relevant training and support will be provided for the successful candidate, including (subject to an application process) support to complete an IBMS Specialist Portfolio.

We encourage all candidates to contact us to discuss the role(s) and we can offer informal visits to our laboratories for interested candidates.

Interview will be held in person, due to practical elements of the interview process.

Full/part time roles are available.

Please note: UK Government immigration and sponsorship criteria have changed. This post is not eligible for sponsorship. Please check your eligibility before applying.

About us

Our Pathology services operate across two large university teaching hospitals in the Leeds Metropolitan area with a population of around million and provide services both regionally and nationally. In addition to the new laboratory projects, we are also working to deploy a West Yorkshire Association of Acute Trusts (WYAAT) regional LIMS, and a new Managed Pathology Service Contract. Construction on the new Leeds Children's Hospital is also about to start, which will include all in-patient maternity and specialist neonatal services to become the largest single site maternity centre in the UK.

The successful candidate will be well supported by the wider scientific and clinical teams. The Blood Sciences Department is accredited to ISO15189 and by the IBMS as a training laboratory in both Clinical Biochemistry and Haematology.

Leeds Teaching Hospitals is committed to our process of redeploying 'at risk' members of our existing workforce to new roles. As such, all our job adverts are subject to this policy and we reserve the right to close, delay or remove adverts while this process is completed. If you do experience a delay in the shortlisting stage of the recruitment cycle, please bear with us while this process is completed, and contact the named contact if you have any questions.
