Position Overview

The Manager, Financial Systems is a business-focused technology expert who develops the direction, oversees the operation of the financial system and associated technologies in close collaboration with stakeholders, and ensures appropriate segregation of duties, appropriate audit controls, and necessary guardrails for the production environment.

The successful candidate has highly developed management and strong communication skills, a keen understanding of financial operations, expertise in the various technologies supporting financial operations, and is a trusted partner. Finally, the successful candidate will be skilled at mentoring staff, building relationships, collaborating with stakeholders and sponsors, and delivering best practice solutions focused on business needs, quality, and data-based decisions.

The Manager, Financial Systems reports to the Associate Director, Application Operations.

Responsibilities
  • Business and technical leadership
  • Provide guidance to IT and Finance leadership on operational needs of financial systems including maintenance, features, governance, and support needs.
  • Serve as the expert on Pew's business process, related to the financial system such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, budgeting, general ledger, reporting, fixed assets, employee expenses. Recommend both business process and system changes to meet Pew's needs.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of Pew's processes by partnering with key stakeholders and technical team members.
  • People management
  • Manage a team of direct reports. Provide timely and ongoing feedback on progress and performance.
  • Set clear expectations of roles and responsibilities for each team member and ensure the team understands their respective tasks and desired outcomes.
  • Create opportunities for staff to improve skills and expand technical knowledge by planning relevant training and offering coaching and mentoring.
  • Establish an environment of openness and transparency. Foster a culture of open, two-way feedback. Set annual performance goals and ongoing feedback.
  • Oversight of operations
  • Implement and enforce policies and best practices over the governance and operations of Pew's financial systems.
  • Support audit efforts and ensure the financial system meets all compliance requirements.
  • Manages the system roadmap in alignment with organizational and team goals, prioritizing operational needs and enhancement requests.
  • Relationships, collaboration, and communication
  • Build strong relationships across all levels of the organization.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholder teams, vendors, and IT colleagues.
  • Provide clear, concise communications about the operation of the financial system, including metrics, progress reports, and annual roadmaps/workplan
  • Vendor management
  • Serve as primary relationship owner and manager of Pew's PeopleSoft hosting vendor, including ensuring all contract deliverables are satisfied, serving as the point of contact for projects, and ensuring alignment of resources.
  • Manage contracted operations support team who handle routine tasks and support Tier 1 tickets. Manage vendor relationships and ensure deliverables are being sufficiently met.
  • General
  • Support the Associate Director, Application Operations to establish and manage annual plans and budgets.
  • Other duties as assigned.

    Requirements
    • Generally, requires a minimum of 8 years of professional experience in information technology, the implementation and operation of financial systems, and application design and support, including staff, project, and/or consultant management experience; bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required
    • Minimum of four years of experience managing and/or implementing financial systems. Demonstrated understanding of financial business operations and relating those to system requirements.
    • Proven ability to manage projects that include implementing new financial systems or significant overhauls or upgrades to financial systems, scoping and developing system enhancements, and the integration of enterprise systems
    • Strong communication skills, including clearly explaining complex technical problems in business language to all levels of the organization, including preparation of executive communications.
    • Ability to build and maintain strong professional relationships and quickly establish credibility.
    • Experience managing third-party and internal resources, including external vendors and other IT staff, through direct supervision or project management.
      Travel

      This position requires quarterly travel to Pew's Washington DC office.

      Salary Range
      • The salary range represents a reasonable estimate of the annual salary based on Pew's commitment to provide equitable and market-competitive pay. The actual salary offered will take into consideration many factors including but not limited to job-related knowledge, skills and experience, internal pay equity, and business need.
