HOURS : Full-time, 9:30am – 5:30pm, Monday to Friday with one hour for lunch. A flexible approach to working hours is a must, overtime may be required at busy times.

We currently operate a hybrid working policy with at least 3 days office working per week. Our hybrid working policy is discretionary and may be subject to change.

ABOUT THE TEAM

The Sheridans Employment and Business Immigration Group invests time in understanding its clients’ businesses, their culture and their objectives, delivering advice accordingly.

The team provides a full service to leading employers and senior executives throughout the employment life cycle. The Group covers everything from hiring to severance, acquisitions (both domestic and international), talent retention, international transfers and mobility, TUPE and outsourcing, working flexibly, agilely and securely within the global economy.

In particular, the Group specialises in the sponsorship of overseas nationals, working with organisations to ensure they can bring in the talent they need to help their business thrive.

The team guides clients through workplace conflicts from internal investigations, to high-value or sensitive disputes and mediation.

Specialised lawyers well versed in Employment and Immigration law work closely together. The team currently comprises of six Partners, six Associates, one Paralegal and two Personal Assistants.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced PA or Paralegal to join our renowned Employment team. The successful individual will have previous experience within employment law, having previously worked for at least 3 years within a busy City practice.

This is a perfect opportunity for those who wish to further their experience within largely employment advisory matters for professional and financial services clients, in addition to having the chance to support the team Principals and wider team with typical PA duties such as administration, diary management and billing.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Undertaking a wide range of document management activities, with a particular focus on more complex and document-heavy exercises
  • Considering evidence to establish relevant witnesses and checking availability
  • Drafting agendas and lists of issues for case management discussions
  • Assisting with the drafting of settlement agreements
  • Drafting applications to Employment Tribunals and liaising with Tribunals
  • Drafting costs applications and preparing schedules of loss/costs
  • Regularly liaising with other team members to ensure the efficient management of caseloads and deadlines
  • Assisting in the preparation of employment contracts and policy documents.
  • Undertaking extensive document work, including preparing redline/comparison documents using CompareDocs/pdfDocs/PowerPDF and ad-hoc printing tasks
  • Typing tasks using handwritten amends and amending correspondence and documents, as required
  • Printing, organising and scanning documents and emails into the Firm’s document management/file management systems (iManage and Lawman)
  • Extensive diary management: arranging meetings, lunches, and scheduling conference calls taking full ownership, chasing and liaising with attendees, both internal and external.
  • Organising travel and preparing itineraries, when appropriate
  • Organising and managing ad-hoc events
  • Preparing and coordinating accurate monthly client bills, including proof reading and amending narratives each month
  • Supporting with progressing cases from initiation to completion
  • Working closely with fee earners to prepare for Employment Tribunals, including compiling evidence, drafting witness statements, and conducting legal research
  • Maintaining regular communication with clients, providing updates and advice as needed

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following:

Skills & experience

  • At least 3 years of previous experience working within and supporting a busy City employment practice
  • A strong sense of commerciality alongside technical excellence
  • A methodical approach to work with a strong focus on accuracy
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience liaising with senior internal and external stakeholders
  • Enthusiasm, resilience, and a professional approach, with an excellent customer service ethic
  • Ability to liaise with, persuade and influence colleagues at all levels
  • Ability to remain organised, prioritise and multi-task particularly when managing a large workload under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Ability to work confidentially, remaining discreet at all times
  • Flexibility towards working out of regular hours at busy times

Qualifications

  • Strong academic record i.e. GCSEs and/or A Levels
  • A Bachelor of Law degree would be preferred, but not essential
