This is an opportunity to play a part in delivering an ambitious Crown Estate strategy in Wales, supporting colleagues through bringing expertise and insight through a Welsh lens to the policy work and developing and delivering public affairs strategies to enhance our impact in Wales in a dynamic political and policy landscape.

This role will be responsible for sharing insight gathered from engagement and understanding of politics and policy to identify risks and opportunities and shape our strategy and major projects such as offshore wind leasing, nature recovery and delivering benefits for communities and the economy. The role holder will lead the policy work in Wales, working alongside subject experts in the business, gathering a detailed understanding of the emerging policy landscape in Wales and be able to identify and communicate the strategic implications of these changes with colleagues and senior leaders. The role holder will also build strong stakeholder relationships, representing The Crown Estate with politicians, Government officials and in external forums.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and implement public affairs strategies to support the delivery of The Crown Estate strategy in Wales
  • Lead policy work for Wales and work in partnership with external affairs and policy experts, gathering a detailed understanding of the emerging policy landscape and identify & communicate the strategic implications
  • Gather insight and understanding of political and policy landscape to shape business strategy and decisions, identifying risks and opportunities
  • Supports engagement with key government departments to the breadth of The Crown Estate Strategy
  • Support the formation of policy position and consultation responses in Wales, working with colleagues across the External Affairs and Policy team. 
  • Provides political insights and wider thought leadership and guidance to colleagues on how to influence policy development and implementation of government policy in Wales.
  • Provide regular update on stakeholder activity and the political landscape to colleagues through meetings, reports, and presentations
  • Research, prepare briefings and narrative development to support colleagues ahead of stakeholder meetings and committees
  • Use effective political monitoring to identify opportunities for engagement based on key issues and business objectives

Skills Required:
  • Extensive knowledge and /or experience of working in Wales and the devolved policy and political landscape
  • Experience of working in a public affair, political, policy or relevant civil service role.
  • Ability to communicate and influence providing strategic advice to senior leaders
  • Ability to engage and build relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Ability to take ownership of projects and work collaboratively in a fast-paced project environment
  • The ability to communicate through the Welsh language will be beneficial, but understanding the dynamics of working bilingually is essential.
