**Are you passionate about driving positive change and influencing policy decisions? Do you have excellent communication and interpersonal skills?** We are looking for a Senior Policy & Public Affairs Adviser to join our dedicated Policy and Campaigns Team at the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association.
**This role is home-based with regular travel requirements to Cardiff and across Wales.**
You will be working with the Public Affairs Manager, and Wales Delivery Team to deliver the MND Association’s influencing, campaigning, and lobbying priorities to improve care, services, and support for people with MND, their carers, and families.
Your role will involve analysing public policy with the Policy Manager to develop policy positions, recommendations and solutions aimed at positioning the MND Association effectively in key debates.
You will communicate the charity's position on policy issues to the Welsh Assembly, Cross Party Groups and Government by writing and managing the production of policy papers, including briefings, submissions, speeches, and reports. Liaising with decision-makers and policymakers, you will develop and maintaining high-level relationships with stakeholders, allies, and partners.
Collaboration is key, and you'll work alongside the Public Affairs Manager to implement public affairs and campaigns strategies throughout Wales. Additionally, you'll ensure alignment with NHS Wales and local authorities to effect meaningful change at Assembly level.
As a representative of the MND Association, you'll engage in meetings and media activities as required, advocating for our cause with professionalism and passion. You'll have the opportunity to establish partnerships with other charities and stakeholders to amplify our collective voice.
Your responsibilities will also include coordinating communication efforts, keeping both internal and external stakeholders informed about policy developments. In collaboration with our Senior Campaign Advisors, you’ll drive impactful campaigning actions at both local and national levels, and provide vital support to our Campaign Volunteers, ensuring our advocacy efforts make a real impact.
**Job Purpose**
- Work with the Public Affairs Manager, to plan and deliver the Association’s public affairs and policy activities across Wales.
- Work with the Senior Campaigns Advisors to support Campaign Volunteers and campaigning in Wales.
- Work with the Policy Manager to identify, research and develop policy positions on a range of issues important to the MND Association and people with MND, their carers and families in Wales.
**Main Responsibilities**
- Work with the Public Affairs Manager, and Wales Delivery Team to deliver the MND Association’s influencing, campaigning and lobbying priorities to improve care, services and support for people with MND, their carers and families.
- Analyse public policy and working closely with the Policy Manager to develop policy positions, recommendations and solutions through internal and external consultation aimed at positioning the MND Association effectively in key debates.
- Communicate the charity's position on policy issues to the Welsh Assembly, Cross Party Groups and Government by writing /managing the production of policy papers, including briefings, submissions, speeches and reports.
- Working with the Public Affairs Manager, develop and manage high level relationships with key decision-makers and policymakers together with allies and partners.
- Develop opportunities to pursue change at Assembly level, using a range of mechanisms and with the Service Development Manager (Wales) ensure alignment of work with NHS Wales, Local Health Boards, local authorities and other statutory bodies as required.
- Work with the Public Affairs Manager to implement a public affairs and campaigns strategy across Wales.
- Coordinate processes to ensure that relevant internal and external audiences are kept up-to-date with policy developments.
- Work with the Senior Campaign Advisors to develop and deliver campaigning actions and support campaigning volunteers to deliver local and national campaigning.
- Represent the Association in meetings and undertake media work as required.
- Pursue the above work in coalition or alliance with other charities or stakeholders when appropriate and hold relationships with key partners and third parties.
- Undertake any other task relevant to the job purpose and ensure that all functions performed reflect the Associations mission and core values.
**Essential Criteria**
- Excellent understanding of the political system in Wales, including Assembly processes and the mechanisms involved in developing legislation/guidance.
- Experience of responding to policy consultations.
- Experience delivering campaigns and public affairs.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
