The Welsh Government is seeking a Policy Development Specialist to join our Plans and Policy team, where you will play a key role in shaping the country's planning policy.

As a Policy Development Specialist, you will be responsible for developing and implementing policy initiatives across various specialist topics related to placemaking. This includes areas such as Climate Change adaptation & mitigation including flooding, Economic Development, Energy, Green Infrastructure & Biodiversity, Historic Environment, Housing, Leisure & recreation, Mineral & Waste, Noise & Soundscape, Retailing, and Transport.

Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Producing draft advice and documents relating to planning policy such as Planning Policy Wales and Future Wales.
  • Assisting Senior Planning Managers with preparing and implementing engagement exercises with external stakeholders.
  • Drafting advice for Ministers during policy preparation and liaising with Private Offices.

You will work closely with other teams within the Planning Directorate to support the development of legislation and case work.

To succeed in this role, you must have a strong understanding of the development plan system in Wales and be able to demonstrate expertise in planning policy development. You should also be a member or working towards chartered membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute.
