The Role:
Teaching Personnel is working with one of our partner secondary schools to recruit an exceptional Head of English. This is a fantastic opportunity for a dedicated and inspirational leader to shape the future of the English department, ensuring a high standard of teaching and learning that drives student achievement. The Head of English will play a crucial role in developing the department’s curriculum, managing staff, and fostering a passion for literature and language across the school community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide visionary leadership to the English department, setting high standards and fostering a culture of academic excellence.
  • Lead and manage a team of talented English teachers, promoting collaboration and ongoing professional development.
  • Develop and implement an engaging, robust curriculum that enhances literacy skills and inspires a love of English in all students.
  • Utilize data-driven insights to monitor and drive student progress, implementing strategies to close attainment gaps.
  • Ensure consistently high-quality teaching practices across the department, supporting teachers in refining their pedagogy.
  • Work collaboratively with senior leadership to align departmental goals with whole-school improvement priorities.

The Ideal Candidate:
We are looking for an enthusiastic, ambitious leader with a proven track record of success in English teaching and leadership. The ideal candidate will have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with extensive experience teaching English at Key Stages 3, 4, and 5.
  • Strong leadership abilities, with experience in departmental or team management.
  • A passion for English literature and language, coupled with the ability to inspire this passion in students and staff.
  • An innovative approach to curriculum development and a commitment to evidence-based teaching methods.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to lead by example, driving improvement and positive change.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
