About the Role:

Teaching Personnel is seeking an exceptional Head of English to join a partner secondary school. The successful candidate will be a dedicated and inspirational leader who can shape the future of the English department, ensuring a high standard of teaching and learning that drives student achievement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Department Leadership: Provide visionary leadership to the English department, setting high standards and fostering a culture of academic excellence.
  • Team Management: Lead and manage a team of talented English teachers, promoting collaboration and ongoing professional development.
  • Curriculum Development: Develop and implement an engaging, robust curriculum that enhances literacy skills and inspires a love of English in all students.
  • Data Analysis: Utilize data-driven insights to monitor and drive student progress, implementing strategies to close attainment gaps.
  • Teaching Excellence: Ensure consistently high-quality teaching practices across the department, supporting teachers in refining their pedagogy.
  • Whole-School Alignment: Work collaboratively with senior leadership to align departmental goals with whole-school improvement priorities.

About You:

  • Qualified Teacher Status: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with extensive experience teaching English at Key Stages 3, 4, and 5.
  • Leadership Experience: Strong leadership abilities, with experience in departmental or team management.
  • Passion for English: A passion for English literature and language, coupled with the ability to inspire this passion in students and staff.
  • Curriculum Expertise: An innovative approach to curriculum development and a commitment to evidence-based teaching methods.
  • Organizational Skills: Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to lead by example, driving improvement and positive change.
