Glasgow, United Kingdom NHS Scotland Full time

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff. This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week. If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Recruiting Board.

This is a fixed term position of 12 months.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the friendly and innovative OPTIMAL team which sits within the wider Older People’s Psychology Service within Greater Glasgow & Clyde. The post is offered on a fulltime, fixed-term basis for 12 months. The postholder will support the work of the team which has a specific remit to reduce barriers and increase access to psychological therapies for older people across Greater Glasgow & Clyde. The postholder will contribute to the work of a small team of Clinical Psychologists, responsible for providing staff training, support and supervision to MDT colleagues involved in the delivery of PI/PTs to older people in GG&C. The postholder will work as part of the team to develop capacity within a tiered care model, addressing gaps in provision and developing robust governance arrangements. The team works collaboratively with MDT and Older People’s Psychology Service (OPPS) colleagues from across GG&C, to improve care pathways and access to a stepped and matched care model of PIs for OP, widening access and improving outcomes for older people. This post will have a remit for supporting the delivery of a highly specialised clinical psychology service to clients, as well as service development / PT Implementation support.

The postholder will utilise research skills for audit, policy and service development and research within the area served by the team/service, specifically contributing to the demonstration of the impact on outcomes of the work of the Older People’s Psychological Therapies Implementation Team (OP PT Implementation Team).

The Clinical Psychology service for Older People provides a highly specialist service to adults aged 65 years and over within the NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde area. The mental health arm of the service is delivered through participation in Community Mental Health Teams for Older People around the health board area. The department also includes a Liaison Clinical Psychology service for older people in acute hospital settings; a Rehabilitation Clinical Psychology service for older people accessing physical health day hospital services; a Young Onset Dementia service; a Care Home Liaison service and an Inpatient Service for Older People.

The post holder will be a member of this Psychology department. Professional and operational management is via the Older People’s Psychology Service and the Psychology Directorate. The post reports to a Senior Principal Clinical Psychologist for Older People.
