The Neuro-interventional service at Royal Preston Hospital provides highly complex brain and spinal procedures as well as stroke intra-arterial thrombectomy for patients across the Lancashire and South Cumbria network. In addition to working in our newly refurbished Philips Azurion Bi-plane Labs, you will assist in the day-to-day running of the service in conjunction with the Lead Radiographer. This includes research, stock control, arranging patient appointments, undertaking audits and other administrational duties. You will work closely with other members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure excellent patient care is delivered and high-quality imaging techniques are performed. Whist this role is primarily based in the Neuro Intervention suite, there will also be opportunities to rotate into other areas of the Radiology department, eg CT, Interventional Radiology or the Cardiac Cath Lab depending upon your interests.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for the planning and allocation of work in the specific area of the department assigned, to ensure the timely delivery of an effective service.

You will monitor and maintain standards of professional practice, supervise more junior staff and deploy staff assuring standards are met.

You will also provide leadership and direction to the team, acting as a role model and patient advocate. Assess, plan and make informed decisions on the required Imaging examinations providing advice and maintaining associated records. Support the aims and vision of the Trust and to take personal responsibility for the quality of the service provided.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

You will assist in the day-to-day running of the service in conjunction with the Lead Radiographer. This includes supporting research, stock control, arranging patient appointments, undertaking audits and other administrational duties. 

Duties to include, but not be limited to:

Assist and support the Lead radiographer in the safe, effective management of the area including management of personnel, facilities and the associated systems and processes Act as a role model, presenting a positive image of self, team and the organisation Be responsible for the delivery and coordination of care, through appropriate professional practice, delegation and supervision of duties carried out by junior staff Ensure a high radiographic standard is delivered by self and others based on assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of standards to meet patients needs in accordance with agreed local and national standards and evidence based guidelines Set, monitor and maintain standards of care to improve the patient experience and outcome of care Proactively manage risk and maintain patient safety, conforming to health, safety and security legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines Communicate with patients, relatives and other healthcare workers to ensure appropriate dissemination of complex information, in a form and manner consistent with their level of understanding, culture, background and preferred ways of communicating Promote equality in care and practice by recognising, respecting and meeting the needs and choices of individuals To participate in education and training of junior staff

As a provider of Hyper Acute Stroke care our service is expanding its cover to include weekends and the successful applicant will be expected to participate in the weekend and out of hour’s sessions.

Experience in a wide range of general radiographic and screening procedures. Involvement with QA. Evidence of willingness to expand clinical role. Evidence of a commitment to reflecting on and learning from previous practice. Awareness of changes within imaging practice. Knowledge of Clinical Governance and the relevance to practice. Experience of audit. Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures Experience of student mentorship and staff supervision.

Desirable criteria

Experience of Cardiac lab or Interventional procedures or CT as applicable to role.
