Job summary

This role provides an exciting opportunity to join a vibrant and highly skilled Neuropsychology Service. The post holder will play a key role in developing neuropsychology provision across neurorehabilitation pathways.

The role will involve delivering assessment, therapy, and consultation with clients, families, and rehabilitation therapy team members. The post holder will have opportunity to develop links with acute hospitals, inpatient rehabilitation services, local mental health services and 3rd sector charities in developing neuropsychological support for people living with neurological conditions.

The successful applicant would be expected to work across locality teams in Luton.

Main duties of the job

There will opportunity to deliver training to non-psychology colleagues both within and outside of the Neuro Therapy Service. They will join an expanding team of psychological practitioners delivering assessment and therapeutic support to people with neurological conditions.

Provide neuropsychological assessment, formulation, and treatment for services users who experience cognitive and emotional difficulties as a result of their neurological condition.

Develop and deliver virtual and group based therapy interventions for service users with neurological conditions.

Contribute to multidisciplinary team working to support service users to achieve their recovery goals.

Provide consultation support to rehabilitation team members and local health, social and 3rd sector services who work with our service user group.

Develop and deliver training to rehabilitation team members, and local agencies to enhance their understanding and competency in working with cognitive and emotional distress.

Engage in audit, service evaluation and research to review and develop neuropsychology and neurorehabilitation services.

Proactively develop neuropsychology and neurorehabilitation provision to best meet the needs of the population the service serves.

Job responsibilities

To provide and develop highly specialised assessment and rehabilitation programmes for adults experiencing neuropsychological difficulties associated with neurological conditions - including both cognitive impairment and psychological distress.

To select and administer highly specialist psychological assessments including specialised neuropsychological assessments, self-report measures (as appropriate) and clinical interviews. To interpret and integrate this highly complex data.

To actively promote service user participation and representation in service development and delivery.

Supervise Assistant and/or Trainee Clinical Psychologists working within the service.

Actively support the local Clinical Psychology Doctorate Training programmes to support the development of Trainee Clinical Psychologists.

To select and deliver evidence-based specialist psychological treatments, monitoring outcome and modifying and adapting interventions, by drawing on a range of theoretical options.

To provide highly specialised expertise and advice to facilitate the effective and appropriate provision of psychological care by all members of the team.

To work as a psychology member of a multi-disciplinary team in order to deliver comprehensive clinical care to clients, liaising with in-patient teams, GPs and referrers as appropriate.

To work as an independent and autonomous professional within BPS and HCPC guidelines and the policies and procedures of the service, taking full responsibility for own work including treatment and discharge decisions.

To provide psychological support to clients who are emotionally distressed due to the consequences of their neurological condition and to also provide support to carers and staff working with such clients.

The post holder will receive supervision according to individual need.

The post holder may be required to engage in additional duties that may arise under the direction of the Neuropsychology Lead.

To provide training to individual colleagues and professional groups within the multidisciplinary team in the Neuro Therapy Service and other relevant agencies.

To be responsible for making decisions about whether it is appropriate for services to be directly delivered by the Clinical Psychologist or whether skills, training and assistance to members of the multidisciplinary team or members of the primary care services may be more appropriate.

To liaise with professionals within the neurorehabilitation pathway as well as colleagues within health, social care and the voluntary sector to ensure that patients are being offered an integrated and effective service.

To contribute to policy and service development within the specialist area of neurorehabilitation services.

To act as a liaison between mental health and community health services.

To adhere to Health and Safety at work requirements.

Qualifications & Training

Essential

Doctorate in Clinical Psychology or equivalent if trained oversees Do you possess, or will you be obtaining HCPC registration?

Desirable

Evidence of recent and relevant CPD activity Post-doctoral training in one or more specialised areas of psychological / therapeutic practice, CBT / systemic. Interest in working towards the Qualification in Clinical Neuropsychology

Experience of working psychologically in the specialist field of neuropsychology Experience of conducting adult neuropsychological assessments. Experience of developing specialist cognitive rehabilitation treatment programmes. Experience in mental capacity assessment.
