An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our team on our Chemotherapy Day Unit at Heartlands Hospital. We are seeking to recruit a motivated skilled nurse with a minimum of 12 months post registration experience to join our existing chemotherapy nursing team.

Chemotherapy is preferable but not essential. All training is supported by the Systemic Anti-Cancer (SACT) Nurse Trainers.

We are looking for someone who wants to increase their Haematology & Oncology experience and wants to work within this rewarding environment.

You will administer supportive therapies supporting patients and their families throughout their cancer journey.

We provide an individualized and supportive environment for patients and relatives.

In each area you will be supported by a nursing leadership team who are present and will help you develop your skills to reach your full potential.

Main duties of the job

We care for patients throughout their pathway, undergoing diagnostic, curative and palliative procedures.

The role will be varied and you will be able to gain clinical skills such as triage, cannulation, venipuncture and central line care together with SACT administration. If you have cannulation, phlebotomy, or central line skills it will be an advantage, but if not, then you should have enthusiasm and dexterity to develop these skills.

The postholder will manage the symptoms related to their treatment, and act as advocate for patients, to ensure a patient focused approach to the delivery of care.

Recognise and act to avoid situations that may be detrimental to the health and wellbeing of patients.

Monitor patients, ensuring accurate records of relevant observations and clinical assessments are kept and take appropriate action as indicated.
