Position Overview

The Clinical Delivery Group 4 -- Medical Services is seeking dedicated Band 5 Registered Nurses to enhance our teams within the healthcare environment. We are in search of individuals who embody our Trust Values: Kind, Connected & Bold.

We have multiple openings for Band 5 Registered Nurses across various specialties:

  • Ward 9, 11, 12 & 15 -- Geriatric Care
  • Ward 8 -- Endocrinology & Diabetes
  • AMU Short Stay, Ward 18 -- Emergency Medicine
  • Ward 23 -- Cardiovascular Care
  • Ward 24 -- Pulmonary Medicine

Main Responsibilities

The successful candidate will operate independently, ensuring safe, compassionate, and person-centered nursing care that upholds dignity and human rights. Responsibilities include:

  1. Assessing patient care needs and developing care plans.
  2. Implementing and evaluating care programs without direct oversight.
  3. Occasionally managing the ward/department and supervising junior staff.
  4. Practicing in a holistic, non-judgmental, and compassionate manner, promoting social inclusion and respecting individual choices.
  5. Collaborating with other healthcare professionals, students, and agencies to provide comprehensive care.
  6. Contributing to clinical practice development and adhering to Trust Policies and Procedures.

Job Responsibilities

1. Clinical Duties:

  • Perform nursing procedures and practices based on theoretical knowledge and practical experience.
  • Advocate for patients to ensure a patient-centered approach to care delivery.
  • Ensure high-quality clinical care and a positive patient experience, considering cultural and individual needs.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment, including risk management and incident reporting.
  • Monitor patient progress and maintain accurate documentation of care and treatment.
  • Develop nursing assessments and care plans based on patient observations.
  • Facilitate safe discharge plans and coordinate care transitions.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to prioritize nursing care.
  • Administer medications responsibly according to Trust Policy.
  • Ensure effective patient handovers between shifts and professionals.

2. Management and Leadership:

  • Support patient flow and manage bed and pathway coordination.
  • Communicate effectively with the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Address immediate concerns or complaints and escalate as necessary.

3. Professional Development:

  • Attend mandatory training and maintain compliance with Trust requirements.
  • Contribute to the establishment and monitoring of clinical standards.
  • Participate in annual appraisals and maintain a professional portfolio.
  • Support the training and assessment of unregistered nursing staff and students.
  • Utilize electronic records and communication systems effectively.
  • Be prepared to work in various settings as needed to ensure patient safety.
  • Recognize the emotional impact of nursing practice and seek support when necessary.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Registered Adult Nurse on the NMC Register.
  • Ability to revalidate as required by the NMC.

Experience

Essential:

  • Recent experience in an acute NHS care setting, including student placements.
  • Evidence of professional development and achievements in current roles.
  • Experience working independently and as part of a team in healthcare.
  • Willingness to become a practice supervisor/assessor for nursing students.

Additional Criteria

Essential:

  • Demonstrated numeracy and literacy skills, including medication calculations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English.
  • Proficient in IT skills for electronic documentation.
  • Competent in various clinical skills and willing to expand practice as needed.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Genuine interest in the nursing role and ability to articulate this.
  • Positive, enthusiastic attitude and reliable work ethic.
  • Ability to work varied shifts, including nights and weekends.
  • Understanding of potential deployment to different practice settings.
