UHB are seeking enthusiastic Paediatric Nurses, Adult Nurses & Midwives to join their busy Neonatal service, we have a Level 3 unit at Heartlands and a Level 1 unit at Good Hope.

As a Neonatal Nurse at UHB you will work alongside our friendly, dynamic, talented team of professionals to deliver high quality, compassionate care to our local community and beyond. You will provide care for pre term and term infants who need medical or nursing care after birth.

On appointment you will join our Neonatal development programme and be supported by our designated Education team and highly skilled MDT. You will start in Special Care, gain knowledge, skills and confidence with neonatal nursing and progress onto High Dependency care, to develop further you will be funded to complete an accredited Neonatal Critical Care course which will open future avenues for band 6 leadership roles.

You must be committed to fulfil the expectations of the role; timescales for progression will be dependent on experience.

We work shifts over a 24 hour, 7 day week shift pattern

If you are a student nurse you must have completed your undergraduate programme and be ready to commence employment by December 2024.

Main duties of the job

As a band 5 Neonatal Nurse at UHB you will work alongside our friendly, dynamic, talented team of professionals to deliver high quality, compassionate care to our local community and beyond. You will provide care for pre term and term infants who need medical or nursing care after birth, they may need short term or long term periods of admission before being deemed fit for discharge.

You will be required to deliver individualised, holistic care to infants and families from a diverse population; you must be skilled in communication so that you are able to fulfil this requirement effectively. You will be required to utilise your nursing skills to assess, monitor and prioritise care of the infant whilst working with the team to ensure care is delivered in an appropriate time scale.

You will need to identify and support families who may have safeguarding requirements and follow trust procedures to ensure appropriate professionals are involved. As an autonomous practitioner you will need to make decisions on patient care, record accurate information and adhere to your professional code at all times.

You must strive to provide a positive patient experience in a safe environment and actively promote family integrated care that respects and maintains dignity and human rights.

*Previous / recent experience or working in an acute secondary NHS care setting (can include student placements within the last 12 months ) *Evidence of achievements and career development in current post and of on-going professional development/ competence *Experience of working on own and in a team in a health care environment delegating to others within a team / providing supervision to others *Willingness to become a practice supervisor / assessor to or meets Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) standards for student supervision and assessment *Understanding and knowledge of the NMC code of conduct *Understanding of preceptorship and work based learning and assimilation of skills and knowledge *Awareness of current relevant NHS policy context *Understanding / experience of the principles of safeguarding and Mental Capacity *Awareness of health and safety issues
