Senior Helpdesk and Admin Officer

The NHS East and South East London Pathology Partnership is an arms-length organisation providing pathology services to Barts Health NHS Trust, Homerton University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust. The Pathology Partnership is hosted by Barts Health.

The Pathology Partnership is based on well-established models for pathology networks, with the Royal London Hospital becoming the main hub laboratory for the network and Essential Service Laboratories (ESL) as a minimum at all other Hospital sites.

Pathology is made up of the following services - Blood Sciences including Haematology, Blood Transfusion and Biochemistry; Infectious Diseases including Microbiology and Virology; Cellular Pathology including Histopathology, non-gynae Cytology and mortuary services; Immunology; Cytogenetics and Molecular Haematology; Immunophenotyping; Clinical Transplantation and Retinoblastoma.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking an enthusiastic individual, experienced in managing a busy Pathology Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) helpdesk team,

The post is to help lead, coordinate, manage the ESELPP Helpdesk and Admin Team. The role will involve working alongside the Pathology Information Systems Manager and the wider Pathology IT team to manage the helpdesk team looking after the various I.T systems in use.

Applicants will need to have significant work experience in a band 6 Pathology I.T role. Significant experience with related Pathology linked systems, including T-quest, Cerner Millenium EPR, GP links and Review is also desirable for this role. The successful applicant will need to possess proficient skills in change control, end to end testing and data validation and analysis.

Applicants will also need to have excellent analytical and problem solving skills and the ability to document performance monitoring, and be able to think and act proactively and strategically. A good knowledge and understanding of laboratory testing processes across the different Pathology departments and their automated technology analyser interfaces is also essential for this role.

The successful applicant will be a team-player with excellent communication, organisational, time management and interpersonal skills. The post-holder will need to work closely and collaboratively with the Trust Clinical Information Systems (CIS), Information Technology (I.T) departments and various other stakeholders. The postholder will also need to work with LIMS staff across the Pathology partnership to help coordinate and ensure the optimal integration, functionality and quality management of the various systems in place.

The Pathology department, and the Trust provides good opportunities for CPD and ongoing and training and development will be actively supported.

Essential criteria

Educated to degree level in a relevant IT subject or equivalent demonstrable experience. Experience in 1st/2nd/3rd line support in Pathology related systems including LIMS

Experience of staff management Experience of coaching and developing staff Extensive experience of developing and supporting a SQL Server data warehouse in a medical environment including the creation of tables, stored procedures, views and functions and use of SSIS. Previous experience of developing a front end application for a SQL Server database using appropriate technologies i.e. web, .NET. Experience supporting a Local/Wide Area Network Experience of working with business performance metrics/data to guide and direct strategy Experience of providing direct customer service, both verbally and in writing

Knowledge

Essential criteria

Sound knowledge of IT systems, network configuration, major applications and desktop support. Experience of supporting and administering a Windows based server environment. Experience of supporting desktop PCs (Windows 7, printers and peripherals). Understanding of project management An understanding of NHS policy Sound knowledge of ITIL service management standards Advanced business analysis and data analysis skills.
