Additional Support Needs (ASN) Service Manager, Western Isles (9584)
35 hours per week, Permanent post
£68,814 per annum, inclusive of £2,742 Distant Islands Allowance per annum
The purpose of this post is to manage the provision for pupils with Additional Support Needs (ASN) across the Western Isles in line with the Statutory duties of local authorities under the Additional Support for Learning Act (2004).
- Ensure authority compliance within the statutory duties;
- Leadership, good management and strategic direction of colleagues;
- Manage the strategic development and implementation of ASN policy and procedures;
- Curriculum Development and Quality Assurance in relation to ASN across the authority;
- Provide strategic direction of assessment and ASN planning processes;
- Promote and deliver effective working practices with partners;
- Allocation of ASN resources and management of associated budgets.
Perform such tasks as the Chief Officer shall direct, having reasonable regard to overall workload, in relation to the duties and responsibilities listed below, as appropriate to the strategic direction of ASN policy and practice across all schools within the authority. The post may also include class/pupil teaching commitment.
Outline of ASN Service Manager/Principal Teacher duties
- Provide local authority ASN leadership across the Western Isles.
- Effective management and strategic direction of ASN colleagues.
- Strategic oversight of ASN quality assurance.
- Leading the development of policies, procedures and practice guidance in support of all aspects and forms of Additional Support Needs (ASN)
- Leadership and provision of ASN training and professional development including reviewing the CPD needs, career development and performance of colleagues.
- Consultation and provision of professional advice, support, and guidance to Head Teachers and Senior Managers.
- Lead role in the ASN Audit and Staged Assessment and Intervention procedure.
- Leadership of allocation, deployment and development of SfLTeachers and support staff based on the ASN audit of need.
- Responsibility for ASN budgets devolved to the role
- Implement national and local authority policies in relation to ASN.
- Strategic liaison and co-ordination with other professionals and services.
- Provide professional advice, support and guidance to Headteachers and Teams Around the Child.
It is essential you hold a Diploma in Inclusive Practice (or equivalent).
You must have several years’ mainstream teaching experience including experience at a promoted teaching level.
A full current UK driving licence is essential.
