Job summary

This position in the Brighton and Hove Wellbeing Service aims to offer career progression within the Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner (PWP) role.

The role will sit in our Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) stepped care service delivering Step 2 interventions in accordance with NICE Guidance.

The post holder will offer evidence-based Guided Self-help, computerised CBT and psychoeducational groups.

The role will involve supporting the PWP Team Lead with development and implementation of service improvement plans and performance monitoring. Support may include the requirement to undertake some line management as required,

The post holder will also be responsible for the clinical supervision and case management of both trainee and qualified Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners.

The post will sit in the Brighton and Hove Wellbeing Talking Therapy Service, which is part of the Primary Care and Wellbeing CDS in Sussex Partnership Foundation Trust.

Main duties of the job

To provide case management and clinical supervision to Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners and Trainee Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners

To maintain high professional standards and attend clinical and managerial supervision

To support the PWP Team Lead in managing the waiting lists and systems for Step 2 assessments and interventions.

To ensure accurate maintenance of clinical records and outcome measures on the clinical data system, and support staff in maintaining accurate records.

To ensure patient satisfaction questionnaires and service reviews are completed

To support the implementation of step care model of delivery of psychological interventions to clients within a primary care setting in line with NICE guidelines.

To work with the PWP Lead in the ongoing development and support of best practice and innovation within the Step 2 Team.

To provide high volume low intensity short term treatments in accordance with the IAPT model,

To undertake initial assessments and gather sufficient information to assess risk /complexity of clients' needs, including drug and alcohol use, current and past medical psychiatric history, and biosocial aspects of the clients situation, making onward referral as necessary.

To be responsible for ensuring own and others clinical practice

Job responsibilities

Clinical Responsibilities/Patient contact

Provide Low Intensity assessment and evidence based CBT interventions in line with NICE guidance including individual and group interventions and using on-line and digital platforms.

Provide a service that is comprehensive and accessible to a broad range of patients who have common mental health problems and who are over 17 and a half years of age.

To provide a service that is equitable and non-discriminatory in terms of age, gender, ethnicity and disability.

Support other primary care workers in making appropriate referrals and in carrying out the mental health aspects of their own roles as required

Make appropriate referrals to other service providers in the statutory and voluntary sectors and redirect patients to other sources of appropriate support within the local community as required.

Develop knowledge of the locality and its services and facilities, particularly in relation to mental health issues.

Provide a service that is flexible as far as possible in terms of clinic hours, enabling, where possible, at least one clinic per week to be run outside normal working hours.

Liaise as appropriate with secondary care mental health services, social services and community organisations.

Conduct risk assessments and initiate appropriate action where indicated including referrals to relevant secondary care services.

Undertake appropriate clinical supervision on a regular basis in accordance with the relevant professional guidelines and policies.

To work collaboratively with other primary care professionals to ensure the service is effective and joined up

Administrative and information systems

Maintain clinical records in accordance with clinical governance and service procedure, using system one or any other electronic database as stipulated and support PWP staff to do the same.

Use data systems to monitor and manage Step 2 waiting lists.

Responsibility for Planning and Organising and Strategic/Business Development

Provide regular reports and analysis of the performance of Step 2 interventions and the PWP workforce in collaboration with the PWP Team Lead.

To work with the PWP team lead in supporting best practice and service development

Service Development/Project Management

In liaison with the PWP Team Lead and the Locality Clinical Lead, to manage an aspect of the service. This might include one or more (depending on the availability of time) of: co-ordinating psycho-education material, keeping a central resource file of clinical resources for general use, acting as a key liaison with an identified group of professionals/organisations, for local voluntary organisations, or acting as a champion for a specific client group.

Research and Audit

In liaison with the PWP team Lead and the Clinical lead, to participate and contribute to audits of clinical activity, evaluation research as required.

Staff Management, Training and Development, HR

Provide clinical supervision to Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners in the locality team.

Offer training to other Primary Care staff in low intensity interventions as required

Support, teach and supervise PWP trainees

Attend locally organised, mandatory and National training appropriate to the work role.

Provide case management supervision and oversight for Trainee PWPs and qualified PWPs.

Ensure that staff maintain appropriate clinical records in keeping with service operational policy.

In liaison with the PWP Team Lead, ensure staff maintain performance and outcome data as per service operational policy.

In liaison with the PWP Team Lead, ensure that staff participate in setting and review of objectives for their post on an annual basis.

In liaison with the PWP Team Lead, ensure that staff participate in activities of continuing professional development (CPD) on an annual basis.

Post qualifying experience of working with people in a mental health primary care setting Ability to demonstrate a range of post-qualifying experiences in offering and delivering the range of evidence-based IAPT low intensity interventions such as guided self-help and group psycho-education Substantial experience of screening, assessing and working with a wide spectrum of mental health issues and working with people with mild to moderate common mental health problems Substantial experience of risk assessment and management/referral on. Substantial experience of multi-disciplinary teamwork Experience of providing supervision to qualified and trainee PWP Good understanding of models of assessment, screening, referral, record-keeping and evidence based brief psychological intervention Demonstrates an understanding of anxiety and depression and how it may present in Primary Care Understands how IAPT is delivered and the key challenges and opportunities this delivery model presents for both the service and practitioners
