Position Overview

The Lead Psychological Practitioner will be responsible for delivering a variety of specialized psychological services aimed at enhancing the wellbeing of teams and individuals within the organization, thereby fostering a psychologically informed approach to healthcare.

This role involves collaboration with the Mental Health Lead and the Clinical Lead Psychologist to manage incoming requests for psychological consultation and intervention from the support service.

The successful candidate will provide expert advice and consultation to multidisciplinary healthcare teams regarding the psychological care of patients, as well as individual and collective wellbeing initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

- Implement a diverse range of psychological interventions, including reflective practice and support sessions following critical incidents.

- Assess and coordinate responses to requests for individual and team psychological support.

- Develop and contribute to management strategies aimed at assisting staff members and teams after traumatic experiences, including directing cases of PTSD or similar conditions to suitable support services.

- Advocate for trauma-informed practices throughout the organization via training, networking, and consultation.

- Play a vital role in the governance of psychological practices within the support service and contribute to broader organizational initiatives.

- Evaluate psychological interventions and decisions, considering both theoretical frameworks and therapeutic models.

- Offer expertise and support to team members across various disciplines, including partners, to ensure effective psychological care for staff utilizing the support service.

- Engage in risk assessment and management for individual staff members, providing guidance to less experienced psychologists and professionals.

- Collaborate with the support service team to ensure that psychological support is tailored to the needs of staff, actively participating in monitoring the effectiveness of interventions.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • Extensive experience as a qualified psychological professional.
  • Post-qualification experience addressing a variety of mental health issues, including complex and chronic conditions.
  • Experience in facilitating reflective practice and post-incident support.
  • Experience in teaching, training, or supervising in a clinical or professional setting.

Desirable:

  • Specialized experience in a physical healthcare environment and within a multidisciplinary team.

Skills and Knowledge

Essential:

  • Flexibility in providing psychological interventions across diverse settings.
  • Ability to consult with various professional groups and facilitate reflective practice.
  • Understanding of trauma's impact on individuals and knowledge of trauma-informed care.
  • Formal training in supervision or equivalent experience.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of research methodologies.

Other Requirements

  • Ability to deliver training using a variety of multimedia resources suitable for diverse audiences.
