Job summary

The North East Kent Home Treatment Team is looking for a Community Psychiatric Nurse to join their team which provides a responsive assessment and home treatment service to those experiencing an acute mental health crisis in the community. You will be expected to work collaboratively with Service Users, Carers, and other professionals, offering home treatment interventions as an alternative to hospital admission across the areas of Canterbury, Coastal and Thanet.

(working across 24 hr shift patterns including early, late, and night shifts)

Main duties of the job

Assessment and home treatment service to those experiencing an acute mental health crisis in the community.

To work as a member of the Home Treatment Team and Rapid Response team, providing intensive home treatment to patients and support for their families using evidence-based, profession-specific, and general mental health knowledge providing client-centered, recovery-orientated principles and practice for individuals, families, and carers referred to the Service.

You will be expected to work with the Rapid response team in order to carry out assessments; both emergency assessments and gatekeepings for patients, who require a 4-hour emergency response.

To work in accordance with the Trust and Home Treatment Team and Rapid Response Policies and Procedures and the Care Programme Approach

Qualifications

Essential

Registration with relevant regulatory body. The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC)

Desirable

Completed or willing to carry out mentorship training. Evidence of further training relevant to the role

Experience

Essential

Experience within acute mental Health services. Experience of liaising with a variety of stakeholders both internal and external to organisations To be able to work a 24hr shift pattern including day shifts, nights shifts and weekend shifts

Desirable

Experience working with patients within a community mental health setting Experience working within Crisis Home Treatment Team

Knowledge and skills

Essential

Knowledge of mental health disorders Knowledge of and ability to apply relevant legislative frameworks and policies relating to care Care programme approach, Mental Capacity Act, Safeguarding, Consent to Treatment. An understanding and ability to apply principles of risk assessment and risk management. Understanding of the impact of mental health crisis on lifestyle and function for clients, family and carers and common pharmacological and psychosocial treatments Ability to maintain a high degree of professionalism at all times, especially in complex/challenging situations. Ability to work autonomously and cooperatively as part of an interprofessional team. Full drivers license and ability to drive to different sites within a timely manner.
