About this job

Barking and Dagenham Council supports a range of inspiring cultural programmes developed in collaboration with and for people in the borough. The Senior Curator and Commissioner oversees these and drives the development of cultural space and infrastructure across the borough. They oversee, among other things, a ground-breaking programme that explores the role that art and culture can play within in social care services (New Town Culture), the council’s National Portfolio Organisation Pen-to-Print, the Galleon Arts Centre and the Women’s Museum.

About you

The successful candidate will bring an ability to lead both curatorial and strategic cultural initiatives. They will have senior-level experience of successful project implementation, including site-based operational development, curation of significant culture and arts-based programmes, budget management, fund-raising, monitoring and evaluation. They will have a strong vision for culture and creativity that enables a positive social impact, and an ability to build effective partnerships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders including local people, cultural practitioners, other Council teams and services, and organisations across civic society and creative sectors.
