Job summary

The post holder will work in the institute of care excellence supporting the research and innovation department a week as the research and innovation advanced clinical practitioner.

As well as meeting the job summary of the generic NUH Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) Job description. They will play an integral role within the research and innovation department at NUH where they will be expected to work across sites as well as the biomedical research centre supporting research delivery and the NUH R+I strategic plan.

Main duties of the job

The ACP will be expected to develop their own skills and knowledge in regards to research and innovation. They will also support the clinical education of the R+I team in developing clinical skills and knowledge to enhance the department's research delivery. They will lead and support the implementation of relevant research into practice contributing to the further development of evidence base practice.

The ACP will be expected to be the link between the research and innovation department and NUH ACP teams in order to enhance the delivery of the clinical research agenda, build research collaborations and drive the dissemination of research. The ACP will also support the development of research capacity and capability within ACP teams, enhancing their skills and knowledge through education and training

Whilst working as the research and innovation advanced clinical practitioner hours a week they will be expected to continue in their current ACP role within their clinical specialty, where they will use specialist knowledge and skills to provide healthcare autonomously to patients in their area.

Job responsibilities

To support the research delivery requirement of the R+I team.

To lead the implementation of relevant research into practice contributing to the further development of the evidence base.

Support the clinical education of the R+I team in developing clinical skills and knowledge to enhance the departments research delivery.

To be the link between the research and innovation department and NUH ACP teams in order to enhance the delivery of the clinical research agenda build research collaborations and drive the dissemination of research.

Support the development of research capacity and capability within ACP teams, enhancing their skills and knowledge through education and training.

Supports others in the evaluation clinical practice through audit of service, developing and managing strategies to address any shortfalls.

Demonstrate knowledge of current research in all aspects of his/her work and to advise others on the implementation of relevant research findings.

Develop skills to lead the development of research proposals with the multidisciplinary team.

Initiate and/or become involved in research projects in response to identified service needs.

Person Specification

Training and Qualifications

Essential

Current registration with professional body such as NMC or HCPC. MSc in advanced clinical practice or equivalent MSc Registered Independent Non-Medical prescriber.

Desirable

Mentor/assessor and/or teaching qualification. Qualification/training in research and innovation GCP training

Experience

Essential

Currently working as a qualified ACP in NUH with substantial experience Completed portfolio of supervised practice in advanced clinical practice. Evidence of continued professional development following MSc completion.

Desirable

Management and leadership experience. Evidence of involvement in policy and practice change. Evidence of publishing and presenting research and innovation Experience in patient recruitment Experience as a principle investigator

Communication and relationship skills

Essential

Ability to work within a multi-professional team, often presenting and receiving complex information. Demonstrates negotiating and influencing skills. Ability to work independently and within a team Assertiveness skills and the ability to deal with interpersonal conflict. Ability to adapt communication methods to a wide variety of patient abilities/needs. Communication skills that facilitate building honest and trusting partnerships with patients, families and carers. Accepts constructive feedback and teaching from a variety of sources.

Evidence of multidisciplinary teaching.

Analytical and Judgement skills

Essential

Ability to respond to, prioritise and analyse complex health conditions and ensure effective interventions are actioned in a timely manner. Deals effectively with clinical issues within defined procedures and guidelines. Ability to work with undifferentiated and undiagnosed healthcare problems. Participation in research or audit projects. Active involvement in departmental operational development.

Desirable

Lead in audit or research. Involvement in the investigation of serious clinical incidents

Planning and organisation skills

Essential

Demonstrates adaptability to departmental and patient need. Self-motivated with evidence of efficient time and deadline management Ability to schedule academic workload and work commitments Able to identify learning opportunities and able to organise own learning and development.

Physical skills

Essential

Able to undertake required clinical duties/procedures. Ability to manoeuvre patients and perform clinical examinations as required. Ability to undertake computer and other equipment skills.
