Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) is one of the busiest teaching hospitals in Europe and is nationally recognised for having an established Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) service. We have 180 qualified ACPs working in 18 specialities and are committed to supporting ACPs career pathways across the pillars of advanced clinical practice. We are seeking a committed, compassionate and enthusiastic individual to join our team of cardiology ACPs. The team rotate to cover the acute cardiology wards, an in reach service to the emergency department and acute medical admission units and outpatient clinics. This is an exciting opportunity to join the established NUH ACP career pathway.

The Cardiac ACP service covers 3 clinical areas:
The Cardiac Assessment Team at QMC:
The cardiac assessment team (CATS) work in the Emergency Department and across the Queens Medical Centre providing specialist Cardiology opinions and specialist emergency treatment. The trust is split over two campuses and the majority of acute cardiology is based at the City campus. The CATS team are essential in providing senior advice and support to ensure that cardiac patients are quickly assessed, treated and transferred to the appropriate area (City or QMC).

Clinic Team:
The clinic team manage the Chest Pain clinic which sees approximately 1800 new patients referred to cardiology each a year.

They also manage the Acute Coronary Syndrome follow up clinic seeing approx. 1000 patients a year.

ACP based on ACU and Papplewick wards

The ACPs provide consistent specialist knowledge, supporting the junior doctors rotate through cardiology 4 monthly.

The post holder will rotate to the Cardiology clinics (City campus), Cardiology wards (City campus) and Cardiac assessment team (QMC campus).

When working with the Cardiac assessment team, they will be required to:
Accept referrals from the Emergency Department and the Acute Medical wards/Admission units for patients with suspected cardiology problems who require specialist input from the Cardiology team.

Formulate appropriate management plans for patients with suspected angina, acute coronary syndrome, heart failure, cardiac arrhythmias and other cardiac conditions.

When working in the CCPS clinic, they will be required to:
Accept referrals from General Practitioners (GP), Emergency Medicine and other NUH specialities for patients with suspected angina who require specialist input.

Manage a caseload of new outpatients with suspected angina. This will include interpretation of investigations to deliver a clear diagnosis to the patient and the provision of a clinic summary letter for the GP outlining the ongoing management plan.

When working in the ACS clinic, they will be required to:
Accept referrals for patients who require out-patient follow up after being admitted with an ACS or post PCI.
