Are you looking to develop your clinical skills in advanced practice techniques? Do you already offer a high standard of patient care? Due to service expansion, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated radiographer to join our breast imaging team as an advanced practitioner.

The post holder will successfully work as part of a multi-disciplinary breast team undertaking both breast screening image reporting and stereotactic breast biopsy procedures whilst also providing imaging as part of the symptomatic and breast screening services.

Main duties of the job

To provide breast imaging to facilitate diagnosis in both the breast symptomatic and breast screening clinical pathways.

You will have a sound knowledge of the NHS Breast Screening Service and significant experience of working as a mammographer within the NHS breast screening and symptomatic services.

You will be able to build and maintain excellent working relationships and excellent communication skills for communicating effectively with patients, their families and health professionals.

You will be provide positive leadership and be a role model for the team.

You will complete stereotactic guided breast biopsy procedures and complete imagine interpretation as part of the NHS breast screening programme.

You will need to be able to think quickly and strategically to delegate tasks appropriately as you problem solve and advise the team on a range of equipment and workflow issues to ensure the clinics run smoothly You will have considerable experience of working effectively within a multi-disciplinary team.

As a mammographer you will work clinically within both screening and symptomatic clinics.

Working for our organisation

The Nottingham Breast Institute provides outpatient symptomatic services and delivers breast screening to a screening population of over 100,000 women. We deliver our service over 2 static and 6 mobile sites and you will rotate to these locations whilst supporting and supervising our team.

You will work alongside our experienced team of advanced practitioners, radiographers and assistant practitioners in both screening and symptomatic mammography. We provide large family history screening and breast cancer follow-up mammography services along with screening assessment clinics and utilise Contrast Enhanced Spectral Mammography, Digital Breast Tomosynthesis and 3-D stereotactic breast biopsy.

As a Training Centre we provide postgraduate education and training in mammography practice and advance practice techniques along with providing a variety of study days which our staff have opportunity to attend. We actively encourage and support CPD activities and have won "Best Poster" at the Symposium Mammographicum on multiple occasions.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- To carry out interventional procedures, the majority will be undertaken without the need for advice and support, however for complex cases you may need to request input from the Consultant Radiologist or clinical specialist.
- To be responsible for targeting the pre-defined lesion and to use advanced clinical reasoning skills to adapt the imaging technique according to individual needs to ensure the correct retrieval of the required tissue sample, complex cases can be referred to the radiologist / clinical specialist.
- The advanced practitioner will be responsible for deploying ‘clip markers’ to an identified site and ‘wire insertions’ prior to surgery both require specific training and technical skill.
- To undertake to read a minimum of 5000 mammograms per year as part of double reading with arbitration in conjunction with a consultant radiologist.
- To attend multi-disciplinary meetings
- To undertake regular audits of personal performance
- To participate in PERFORMS
- Mammography examinations on symptomatic and asymptomatic patients at both static and mobile sites.
- Specialised mammography techniques including stereotactic localisation at screening and symptomatic assessment clinics.
- To consistently carry out mammography examinations to a standard which meets the NHSBSP Quality Assurance Guidelines for Mammography
- Plan and prioritise own workload in order to maintain service and clinic workflow
- Be aware of individual client and patient needs and demonstrate empathy and sensitivity in sometimes highly emotive situations
- Communicate effectively across a wide range of health care professions
