This is an exciting opportunity to join our growing advanced practice radiotherapy team. You will work closely with the lung clinical oncologists to provide seamless care for patients undergoing radiotherapy for lung cancer.

The radiotherapy department at Nottingham has significant experience in delivering world class SABR and VMAT treatments for lung cancer. With the instigation of the targeted lung health check initiative across Mansfield and Nottingham it is expected that the patient numbers will grow. This role will be integral in ensuring quality care can be maintained for all patients across the radiotherapy pathway during this time of growth.

Main duties of the job
- To act as an advanced practitioner in all areas relating to treatment and care of patients undergoing radiotherapy for primary Lung cancer.
- Coordination of patients undergoing chemo-RT. Ensuring effective communication between chemotherapy and radiotherapy around timings of bloods and treatment delivery.
- Use a combination of a wide ranging experience and clinical knowledge of current developments to actively participate and develop the service for patients undergoing radiotherapy for Lung cancer.
- To participate in the direct clinical management of patients including consent, treatment outlining/planning and delivery, on treatment review and management of treatment related side effects under the clinical direction of a consultant clinical oncologist.
- Act as a focus for specialist clinical advice to staff, working closely with the wider Lung MDT, Principal Radiographers and clinicians

The Radiotherapy Department provides complex treatments including: paediatric radiotherapy, image guided IMRT, SABR, SRS and total body electron and photon treatments for patients across Nottinghamshire and the wider East Midlands region. The department has a major commitment to evidence based practice and participates in multi-centre clinical research trials.

Communication and relationship skills

Essential criteria
- Evidence of Influencing the direction and decisions of the department by communication of personal and departmental visions and plans
- Evidence of building robust and meaningful relationships with the multi-professional team to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of the service, e.g. radiotherapy physics, medics and nursing staff

Desirable criteria
- Evidence of cross service/profession communication to coordinate pathways of care.

Other requirements

Essential criteria
- Responsible with colleagues for defining and monitoring the clinical governance framework for the unit
- Recent experience of working in the NHS and awareness of radiotherapy practices associated.
- Ability to attend clinics at Nottingham City and Kings Mills Hospital, Mansfield.

Desirable criteria
- Lead and facilitate the development of new techniques, research and audit in collaboration with other staff groups within the Directorate

Training and Qualifications

Essential criteria
- HCPC Registered radiographer with first degree in radiotherapy and oncology or equivalent e.g. BSc (Hons) or Diploma College of Radiographers
- Highly skilled radiographer working towards or completed qualifications equivalent to Masters level e.g. MSc or Higher Diploma of the College of Radiographers. (Must be able to complete advanced practice modules to support role)

Desirable criteria
- Training in consent, clinical examination, radiographer on treatment review, planning techniques or treatment imaging.
- Lung cancer specific training
- MSc in Radiotherapy and Oncology, Advanced clinical
