The Medicine Division Lead Advanced Practitioner will support the divisional senior team where they will provide highly specialised, expert advice, consultancy, and clinical expertise regarding advanced practice (AP). They will provide clinical leadership and support for AP services across the division.

The post holder will be responsible for service development, guidance, and motivation as well as operational oversight of the AP teams across the division. They will support and play a key role in the development of advanced practice at a local, trust and regional level, supporting the Trust Lead AP and the Chief Allied Health Professional in the strategic development of AP services across the organisation and division.

The post holder will practice as a senior clinician, will have an in-depth understanding of advanced practice and will be able to demonstrate advanced communication, leadership, and organisational skills. They will work across the department where their expertise lies, practicing independently and autonomously with mínimal or no supervision. The post holder will deliver a clinical component to their role and as well as their AP divisional management, leadership, innovation, and educational responsibilities.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be expected to work on average 37.5hrs/week splitting focus between clinical work (60%) and the leadership, innovation, educational work of the Lead post (40%). Shift patterns, where appropriate will be compliant with the European Working Time Directive and will involve shifts not more than thirteen hours in length.

Clinical duties are expected to be conducted in the applicant’s specialty area of clinical expertise in accordance with the NUH Advanced Clinical Practitioner JD/PS & their individual clinical competence & capability portfolio. It is expected that, if they are not actively contributing to specific rota, their ability within their clinical area will be on a par with Tier 2 (Middle Grade/SPR/ST4-7).

They will support and advocate for the development and growth of the four pillars of advanced practice within the Medicine Division across both NUH campuses.

The busy, fast-paced Medicine Division supports over 35 wards over QMC and City Campus, including one of the largest Emergency Departments in the UK. A flexible response is required to deal with day-to-day operational pressures & the Division always seeks to adapt & develop new ways of working as the needs of our population change over time.

Three Divisional Advanced Practice Leads provide leadership for their respective specialty AP teams and these leads provide support to the Trust Consultant Lead for NUH. Advanced practice at NUH is supported by an organisational policy strategy and training framework with nearing 200 ACPs working within 16 specialties. NUH AP governance and assurance facilitates many areas of innovative work across the four pillars of advanced practice.

Essential criteria
- Current registration with professional body such as NMC or HCPC
- MSc Advanced Clinical Practice
- Leadership qualification / ALS provider / GCP qualification
- Registered Independent Non-Medical Prescriber

Desirable criteria
- Working towards, completed or willing to complete PhD
- Working towards / completed speciality accreditation
- Working towards / completed NHSE AP Digital Badge

Experience

Essential criteria
- Significant experience in post as a qualified ACP (5 years within Medicine)
- Completed portfolio
