Clinical Teaching Fellow in Medicine

The Foundation to Practice (FFP) course is the first full-time clinical attachment for medical students, which runs from late February to the end of October. There are 5 blocks of 6 weeks with approximately 30 students per block (150 in total). Medicine specialities taught here include Respiratory, Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Neurology, Diabetes and Endocrinology and Medical Emergencies. The Advance Practice 1 (AP1) course for from March September and forms the second part of the clinical phase.
There are 4 blocks of 6 week placements with approximately 36 students per block (144 in total). Medicine specialities taught here include Renal and Haematology. The Advance Practice 2 (AP2) Senior Medicine runs from October February and forms the final part of the Clinical course. There are 4 blocks of 4 week placements with approximately 36 students per block (144 in total).
Medicine specialities taught here include Cardiology, Respiratory, Neurology, Gastroenterology & Medical Emergencies. The coordination and delivery of teaching to these groups will be the post-holders primary responsibility. The main thrust of the FFP, AP1 and AP2 Medicine, is to enhance the experience of the medical students on the wards, integrate them as part of the team and you will have a key role in ensuring that happens In terms of both teaching but also supporting the students on the wards. It is expected that teaching will be mainly patient-orientated, teaching history taking, clinical examination and basic patient management that will include DOPS and Mini-Cex assessments as part of the teaching session.
Alongside this, there will be Case Base, Clinical Reasoning and Professional Development Forum Teaching. Sessions also include volunteer patients for workshops, simulated teaching, A-E simulation workshops and clinical skills.
