Job overview

The role involves leading operations for the Barking & Dagenham Adolescent and Youth Justice Service CAMHS team, working in close collaboration with the Service Manager and the Senior B&D CAMHS Management Team. The position includes providing managerial and clinical leadership, contributing to service development, managing referrals, and promoting interagency collaboration. Candidates should have experience working with vulnerable children and young people, possess excellent communication skills, and be both aspirational and adaptable to conduct comprehensive health assessments for those known to the Youth Justice Service. The post holder will manage the daily operations of the Youth Justice Nursing service within B&D YJS Health CAMHS, while also maintaining a clinical role. Responsibilities include providing clinical and professional leadership, line management to the team, and support to the Service Manager. Additionally, the role involves contributing to the strategic direction, supporting the integration of pathways, and leading the establishment of effective partnerships with the local authority, youth justice services, primary care, and the broader health and social care community, including key stakeholders.

Main duties of the job

As an expert practitioner, the post holder will lead the continuous professional development of the workforce, assist the Service Manager in enhancing the service's performance capabilities, and undertake or coordinate service improvement and governance initiatives. They will also support the development of policy and practice and act as a deputy for the Service Manager.

The post holder will provide support to their peers and team leader, contribute effectively as a team member, and work independently on their own initiative. They will be committed to collaborative working and actively support and liaise with other health and social care professionals and agencies.

Starting with NELFT
NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focusing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

High Cost Area Supplement - London

This post attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum payment of £4,313 and a maximum payment of £5,436 per annum pro rata).

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

Work closely with Barking & Dagenham Children’s social services, Youth Justice Service, the police, core CAMHS teams, and other partner agencies to foster integrated practice.
• Establish clear communication channels with external agencies for coordinated care and support.
• Undertake CAMHS assessments and care coordination for young people in a community setting, emphasizing the connection between offending, mental health, and substance misuse.
• Collaborate with the YJS Clinical CAMHS Team, senior clinicians, and the multidisciplinary team for mental health risk assessments.
• Collaborate on strategic planning for ongoing CAMHS service development within the Barking & Dagenham Adolescent and Youth Justice Service.
• Contribute insights to enhance the overall effectiveness and responsiveness of the CAMHS team.
• Oversee and manage the referral process, ensuring timely and appropriate allocations within the Barking & Dagenham Adolescent Youth Justice Service CAMHS team.
• To ensure that the transition process to adult health provision for young people meets individual health care needs and is appropriate, timely & well-co-ordinated.
• To work in partnership with the multi-agency team of professionals including Children's Services, Education & CAMHS to help young people known to the Youth Justice Service reach their potential by helping them to understand their health & take responsibility for their health and wellbeing appropriate to their age & development.
• The post holder will work with young people and families within the home environment, school, or other identified community settings.
• Attend and Contribute to the effective functioning of the team and service by attending relevant meetings and assuming responsibilities as negotiated with the line manager; and, providing CAMHS input for adolescents within the Youth Justice Service.
• Collaborate with the team and clients to maintain a safe therapeutic environment.
• Uphold high operational standards in clinical systems to assure the quality of care provided by the Barking & Dagenham Youth Justice Service-CAMHS Team.
• To establish robust, effective, and positive partnerships with managers, clinicians and primary care ensuring that support and supervision is provided to staff to prevent professional isolation. 
• To work with Service Manager to improve recruitment and retention and contribute to the recruitment process, acting as appointing officer as required.
• Ensure accurate, up-to-date, and high-quality recording and reporting of client contact, adhering to CAMHS and professional standards of record-keeping.
• Utilize RIO (NELFT) Liquid Logic and Child View (Youth Justice System) for efficient information collection and collation.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
• To attend, actively participate and represent the service in professional and management forums and locality-based meetings. 
• To maintain an up-to-date knowledge of national guidelines and legislation from the Department of Health, Youth Justice Service, and other relevant services and to be aware of their impact on the profession in order to develop clinical policy and protocols. 
• To establish and maintain robust links with professional bodies such as the Nursing & Midwifery Council and to ensure that clinicians are aware of professional developments that impact on their practice.
