Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom Newcastle University Full time

The Role

We are pleased to advertise a 3-month fixed-term Clinical Research Associate position available for an enthusiastic and highly motivated oncology trainee to complete and in-depth analysis and report of extensive microbiome data in relation to the Monitoring immunE DysregulAtion foLLowIng checkpOint-inhibitioN (MEDALLION) project. In unravelling biomolecular underpinnings of immune-related adverse events resulting from immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) treatment amongst cancer patients, we seek predictive biomarkers and insights into mechanisms of immune-mediated disease more generally. A rich dataset of microbiome sequencing data recently acquired from the skin and gut of prospectively followed ICI recipients in the well-characterised MEDALLION cohort affords a unique opportunity to elucidate potential interplay between commensal communities and adverse event susceptibility. With access to this resource, and supervision from a multidisciplinary team of translational scientists, the successful applicant will develop and deploy analytical and writing skills to extract outputs that inform this research field in a timely manner.

The appointee will join the Musculoskeletal and Inflammation Medicine Theme of the NIHR Newcastle Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) at Newcastle University; an interdisciplinary team with a focus on improving lives through world-class research in ageing and multiple long-term conditions with an emphasis on immune-mediated musculoskeletal disease. They will collaborate with colleagues with expertise in microbiome sequencing analysis, immunology and oncology. The post is funded by the NIHR Newcastle BRC, which is committed to providing comprehensive training in translational research, enabling the successful candidates to gain a range of transferable research skills and experience in the analysis and communication of experimental medicine.

Applications are invited from UK Registered Clinicians from the discipline of medical oncology with a current, valid GMC registration. This is a fixed term for a period of 3 months, due to the imperative to complete the analysis involved.

Applications from candidates wishing to work less than full time are welcome, and informal enquiries may be made to
