Job summary

Hi, I'm Emily, a Specialist Perinatal Occupational Therapist and acting Team Manager for the South Perinatal Team. Based in the community, we support women in Cambridge with severe or complex mental health needs who are planning a pregnancy, pregnant, or have a child under one. We provide high quality, evidence-based specialist advice, assessment, and interventions.

I joined the team in September 2019, previously working in an acute physical health hospital. I gained an interest in working with pregnant women with eating disorders. I love how our service considers the whole family's needs and takes a holistic view of both present and future needs. Pregnancy and parenthood are life-changing events, and I feel privileged to help people during this time.

If successful, you will work with me and another Band 6 OT in our South Hub. You will contribute to innovative practice and support the development of personalised care for our service users.

We invest heavily in our staff. Every new starter attends the Tavistock Perinatal Training program, so perinatal experience isn't necessary. Joining our team means access to excellent resources and support. I have gained significant CPD in perinatal training and further developed my OT skills.

Main duties of the job

As an Occupational Therapist, your role includes both generic and profession-specific responsibilities:

Generic responsibilities:

Lead professional/care coordinator for a caseload of women. Conduct Perinatal Initial Assessments and attend Assessment MDT feedback. Participate in the Perinatal Duty/Triage Rota (weekday 9-5 pm). Work as part of an MDT including Psychiatrists, Psychologists, and more. Supervise staff at Band 5 and lower.

OT specific responsibilities:

OT referral/triage, assessment, goal setting, treatment, and evaluation using the MOHO framework. OT group work: Antenatal Wellbeing and Post-Natal Wellbeing groups, with other groups in development. Supervise qualified staff and support staff to ensure OT interventions. Supervise OT students on practice placements. Work with the B7 Lead to meet OT service needs. Promote OT and act as an ambassador within the team.
