NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff. This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week. The shift pattern is Monday-Friday 09.00-17.00.

The post holder is responsible for managing their own community caseload and the management and supervision of the caseloads of junior nursing staff within their identified sub-team.

The post holder provides a service to a defined geographical area for patients who are experiencing mental health problems and also has a key role in promoting and developing the role of Community Psychiatric Nurse. The post holder provides an appropriate high quality, culturally sensitive and effective specialist nursing to older people with mental illness living in the community by working in partnership with service users, care providers and other agencies.

The post holder will triage, assessment, short term intervention, participation in discharge planning processes and facilitates the co-ordination of care working collaboratively with patients using a biopsychosocial model within community OPMH services. The post holder identifies patients with complex needs, requiring referral to other agencies/teams both primary & secondary and voluntary agencies. The post holder provides expert clinical advice, practical support and specialist education to other professional groups/staff regarding the mental health needs of the individual referred as well as teaching students.
